Even when you live in an epic vacation destination, surrounded by nature and incredible things to do, you can still get stagnant. It's easy to say "I'm too tired" or "I'm too busy" or "It's too hot."

Since January I have been working hard to get up off my butt and go on adventures, see new parts of Belize and revisit old favorites. In the last few weeks I've made some really excellent friends who help me take better advantage of the nature experiences and push myself more. I'm really lucky to have found this crew. It gives living in Belize that extra flavor.

Thanks to the Cayo Birders Club for getting me out and reminding me how lucky I am to live here ♥️

Tomorrow is Global Big Day -- a worldwide event focused on recording data about bird populations. Last year there were 1.7 million people participating and they recorded 7,900 species over the course of the day. This year the global goal is 8,000.

I will be out from pre-dawn to after dark with so we can represent the abundance of birds in Cayo District and add to the global count. Plus, it's a fun crew and we always have a good time.

The one statistic I'm most curious about is how many naps will I need to prepare?

In January I saw my first violet sabrewing, and nothing prepares you for the size of these vibrant birds. I think it's the biggest hummingbird I've seen yet.

Mom and two baby jaguarundis just passed under my office. Mom looked right up at me in the window! This is my reward for working on photos on a Sunday 🥰

There are so many different kinds of beaks -- each having evolved for a very specific task. The Snail kite has a curved beak, which looks mean, but it's designed for eating freshwater snails. So guess it is mean if you're a mollusk.
