My time at Shipstern was definitely worth it! I present to you The Black-bellied Whistling Duck (Dendrocygna autumnalis). This species are native to the America’s and finds a safe haven at Shipstern Conservation Area, a true symbol of Belize’s thriving wetlands and commitment to wildlife.

Meet the Bare‑throated Tiger Heron (Tigrisoma mexicanum) a stealthy, streaked wader with a bare, colorful throat patch and a tiger‑like pattern that helps it blend into mangrove roots and riverbanks. A patient ambush hunter, it feeds on fish, crabs and other shoreline prey. 🐦🌿

In Shipstern Conservation Area (northern Belize), protected mangroves, coastal lagoons and shoreline forests keep feeding and nesting habitat intact, preserving the fish and crab nurseries this heron relies on and safeguarding Belize’s rich coastal biodiversity. 🇧🇿💧

Clear skies at the Shipstern Conservation & Management Area. I was hoping for some rainy weather; that usually make for some more dramatic landscapes. However, the Sun lightens my spirit and I much rather be out shooting on a bright sunny day.
