Largely solitary or in pairs, adult Martial Eagles are generally sedentary within their 125-150 km2 home range. This species is Africa’s largest eagle and highly aerial, typically hunting on the wing, soaring and diving from a height to capture vertebrate prey on the ground. Prey includes reptiles, mammals such as squirrels, hares, hyraxes, mongooses and even small antelopes.

Lilac-breasted rollers prefer open woodland and savanna and are generally absent from treeless areas. They are usually found alone or in pairs, perching at the tops of trees, poles, or other high vantage points to spot insects, amphibians, and small birds on the ground.

Motswiri and her cub, now nearly 4 months old, are both doing well!

They had a dramatic encounter yesterday when they were chased up a leadwood tree by five lions, who took over their impala kill. They remained in the tree until nightfall for safety.

Fortunately, they were spotted again this morning, both healthy and relaxing in the riverbed. 😍
