"Can you see my breath?"

Another shot from earlier this week in Richmond Park. Wintery, cold and damp, but with just enough morning light to capture this deer's breath.

Yesterday morning I got up early to attempt some deer photography in Richmond Park. Fortunately I found some deer conveniently close to the car park. The light wasn't generally amazing, but I'll post a few pictures from the outing.

When we were photographing this jackal last week, I spent a bit of time playing with my camera settings. Grant Atkinson suggested overexposing the image which led to a fairly non-descript background fading out of the picture and the focus of the image being centred on the jackal.

I'm not a big fan of birds but I quite liked this one. It's a Southern Ground Hornbill which spends its time pecking the ground to find its food - in this case flies of some description - which it picks up with the tip of its beak before tossing it in the air and catching it to devour in a slick manoeuvre. Here is one such fly meeting its end.

This is one of my favourite pictures from my recent trip to Botswana. Last Tuesday morning, a storm was threatening when we saw a herd of wildebeest on the plain. As we were taking pictures, the sun broke through and covered the grass, trees and wildebeest with a golden glow. Shortly afterwards the heavens opened.
