I am originally from Germany and have been with Pangolin Photo Safaris since 2013 when I decided to leave the world of high finance for a life of adventure and beautiful imagery in Botswana. Being a wildlife addict and having been fascinated with photography since school, the decision was an easy one! My passion for wildlife as well as my intention to observe and regard the finer details in life t

ransforms my subject in front of the camera. While I spend most of my time teaching photography to nature enthusiasts and photographers in the Chobe National Park, I am also leading several expeditions to other iconic photo destinations further afield throughout the year along with my partner Guts. I want to believe that my passion for photography is evident in my teaching style, which takes my clients on a creative journey, finding the perfect shooting methods that suit their technical and creative attributes.

Rain in Africa,

We have had big rains in Southern Africa over the last two weeks. What a blessing for Botswana. As wildlife photographers, wet and dark skies can be tough on our ISO. But let's be honest: there is nothing like a sun break in a stormy sky!

If you want to know what created these great colours on the elephants checkout my story today.

Open-door helicopter flights

In the Okavango Delta

Are the only way to truly rap your head around this unique and extrodenary eco-system

They are not scary! I have head many clients that are scared of hights that stepped out of their comfort zone and came back proud, awed, blown-away and changed for ever.

Still my favourite place,

The Okavango Delta! - The largest inland Delta of the world! A UNESCO world heritage site!

check out my story board for today to understand the ecosystem in full. Nothing explains this place like Aerial shots, which is why every single one of Pangolin Photo Safarishosted Delta trips include an open-door Helicopter flight!!! They are pure magic and the flights showcase the only eco-system of this size (about 15,000 sqkm) that is so scenic and versatile - pure wilderness, untouched, and still connected to larger migratory routes.

- elevated areas: originally created by a single termite mount that a bird uses to perch. As a result seeds get spread and trees use the higher and therefore drier ground to germinate - RESULT: islands with beautifully forested areas
- depressions: while the Delta is flat as pancake elephants love to dig in order to do mud and sand baths. Continued usage creates pans that collect water in the rainy season - RESULT: big open pans that flood in the winter months and have open grassland in the summer months
- waterways: Hippos come to live in the flooded areas and use established routes to go grazing at night or go from one pan to another. Do to their size and weight these established routes get edged into the ground and as water takes the path of least resistance end up forming channels and streams of the Delta.

by the way - shooting out of a helicopter with a 400mm fix is far from ideal. I was desperate as it was the only lens I brought on that specific trip - as some sort of a challenge. It is too big, way to clumsy, catches too much air, and is often too close. The one advantage is that you can shoot it wide open. As you are forced to shoot incredibly fast out of a helicopter, you often end up with too little light in the early mornings.

And off we go into the New Year

May we all overcome challenges, explore, adventure work hard, play hard, look out for ourselves, take a breather, and love the people we surround ourselves with!

This is what I wish for everyone!

Emperor,

I have never been to the continent of Antarctica but somehow won the lottery and was able to join this incredible trip that flies straight from Cape Town to Antarctica. Here the objective is to photograph the ever so elusive and rare emperor penguin.

We were so fortunate with the weather on our first day that we were able to fly to the Astrid colony which has only been visited by humans since 2023 and even since then only by a hand full of people.

If you are wondering how to do such an amazing trip follow my stories for more.

Epic Kenya,

Pangolin Photo Safaris takes you throughout Kenya's most beautiful National Parks in February. Would you like to join us?

While Mount Kilimanjaro often hides away when visiting Amboseli it is rare that we don't get a sneak peak at some point.

NO AI involved - pure nature - pure beauty

I cannot wait for the rains,

This little elephant youngster was photographed in the green season in the Okavango Delta. I really love how happy and peacefully he is eating his water lilies - a plant that seems to have a sweet taste and is loved by many. The variety of vegetation and water in this shot tells me it is a good time for the elephants. Last night I had a young bull coming to town again (check my story) desperatly looking for food as October is the absolute opposite. Everything is dry, dusty, and bare.... Rains typically come in November and I hope they arrive early this year.

Camera Tip: If you find some vegetation close to you, place it in the foreground. On a low F-stop it will blur nicely and add another dimension to the photo drawing you towards your subject.
