Took a trip with one of the newest operators on the South Africa 🇿🇦–🇿🇼 Zimbabwe route, Lazarus Luxury Coaches heading to Bulawayo.
My advice? Pre-book your ticket.
I arrived at Powerhouse an hour before departure , boarding was smooth and by 1700hrs sharp the coach was rolling out of its bay. The first stop was Midrand Bird Bird, which also was a pickup point for passengers who prefer not to board in Joburg CBD. After that, the next stop was the border. I was skeptical at first about the arrangement but it turned out to be a smart move as we bypassed the lengthy refreshment stops that slowed down other coaches along the route.
Despite minor delays at toll gates and police checkpoints, we reached Beitbridge Border Posr around 01:00AM. The 🇿🇦South African side was crowded and slow, but the crew was helpful throughout. The 🇿🇼Zimbabwean side, on the other hand was surprisingly quick and efficient.
After crossing the border I tried getting some sleep, but the condition of some sections of the road made that a challenge. Thankfully, once we were back on the tarmac the ride became much more comfortable.
The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the WiFi. In all my years of travelling by coach, this was the first time I experienced uninterrupted internet from Johannesburg all the way to Bulawayo. Turns out the coach is equipped with Starlink and it performed exceptionally well throughout the journey.
Upon arrival in Bulawayo, passengers were dropped off in a secure location where people could safely unload their goods and be collected by family and friends.
Overall, a solid first experience with Lazarus Luxury Coaches. Punctual departure, good route planning, reliable connectivity and a professional crew made for a comfortable journey
