Every portrait has a story.

A few of my faves;

• Russell Crowe- intimidating and lovely in equal measure. I waited all day outside a hotel room for that one moment he finally let me get the shot.

• Suzie DeMarchi for Rolling Stone- the pre‑shoot chats were just as good as the shoot itself.

• Lockdown Locals - The lockdown locals series shot during sydneys covid lockdown when I stood outside my house offering to take portraits of neighbours as they passed by. There’s judy with her cpmpost bucket, Michael and ELi who’s mother said she did have a single photo of htem looking at the camera and Hazel and Cider the cat. This is when I truly learned the power of giving someone a beautiful photo of themselves. The joy on people’s faces kept me coming back for more.

• Bodzilla, Abbie Chatfield and Sarah Hanson-Young - the first women to say yes to my “Loud Mouth Project,” trusting me completely. April (bodzilla) shot on film on a belly laugh kind of day. Abbie welcomed me into her bedroom for some natural portraitsand Sarah stood in the ocean fully clothed on a 40 degree day at sunset for her portrait.

• Kylie Kwong & Sally Scales - portraits for the Artists for the Voice campaign, created in a studio full of amazing artistic talent, hope and positivity.

• Alex Greenwich - a genuinely lovely human. His dad, Prince Victor Dadianov, emailed me after publication to say how impressed he was. That kind of feedback stays with you.

• And the final frame, a shot from Weld Stories’ “Story Heroes” project, a reminder of why I love what I do.

Throwback to the Industrie campaign in Rio where 2 giant security guards were given the job of chasing me around the beach. I remember seeing a cool shot so I just ran to get it. I looked behind and saw these two poor guys out of breath searching the beach for me.

I thought I’d introduce myself properly on here. I flip between posting a lot of work in a curated way to not posting at all for ages. Now it’s time to be real and say hi properly.

I’m Cara, a fashion and portrait photographer. I recently relocated from Sydney to the Northern Rivers and am now living my best seaside life. I love the beach but am a little scared of waves… which can be a problem. I also love op shopping, pottery, margaritas, paddle boarding, random craft days and live music. I hate spiders, don’t mind snakes.

My favourite shoots are on location, preferably on a farm. I love the challenge it brings and the high you get at the end of the day when you’ve absolutely nailed the brief. I also love studio shoots — they’re a beautiful blend of calm and chaos. I’m very technical with lighting and love seeing a client over-the-moon when their vision comes to life.

If you’re a Northern Rivers brand planning a shoot, whether that’s a campaign, lookbook, ecomm, portraits or anything in between, I’d love to create something beautiful with you. I’ve been spending more time at home than usual this past month which has been amazing. People often ask if I regret the move from Sydney to the Northern rivers, I think this video answers that question. Now to get more shoots locally so I can be home for a beach ride after work.
