Actually it was on April 1st, but I didn’t want to have it sound like a joke. So yes, 15 years as a professional wedding photographer. I lost count how many weddings I got to capture, but it must be +350 by now.
Some thoughts of 15 seasons:
- I started out as a hobby photographer without - let’s be honest - proper knowledge, and started following workshops. I continued doing this until today. You can always improve and I’m sure it defines your artistic vision a lot.
- I’m really bad keeping and organizing behind the scenes, although I know I have plenty of them, somewhere on my film roll.
- I’ve seen it all: luxury weddings at very exclusive venues and low budget weddings at home. The amount of € spent actually never matters to build a beautiful visual love story.
- I traveled to Morocco, Italy, Spain, France, USA, Canada, Portugal and more beautiful destinations to document love. Spending a weekend with a couple and their guests really elevates the experience, for everyone. I get to know everyone so much better and that really benefits the gallery.
- Traveling to Morocco to capture a wedding 3 weeks after giving birth was a very good decision. I knew that fellow mothers didn’t understand what I was doing, but I still believe being an ambitious entrepreneur and being a good mother can go hand in hand.
- Not every wedding is my wedding, and that’s a good thing. The moment I embraced that, my work (and my clients) changed completely.
- The real luxury is not the venue, the flowers or the budget. It’s the freedom to do things your way and be surrounded by people who get it.
- Some of my favorite images would mean nothing to anyone else. But to my couples, they are everything. And that’s exactly the point.
- I’ve built a business, but more importantly, I’ve built a life that feels like mine. I can travel the world, I get to meet so many interesting people. I built the freedom to spend winter in the sun with my boys and that’s the biggest win of all!
SWIPE for some moments, good and bad.
