Exactly one year ago, my girlfriend and I were enjoying the aircraft arriving at Radom for the airshow that was to be held that weekend.
It would be our first time attending an airshow in Poland, and during the day we already got a taste of the airshow through the rehearsal displays from a number of participants.

We had no idea that the final demo of the day would turn into something we never hoped to have to experience.

During sunset, we were enjoying the Polish F-16 Tiger demo team practicing their display over the field until we suddenly heard a bang and saw smoke rising from the airfield.
My stomach churned (and honestly, it still does now) when it became clear that the pilot had been unable to save himself with the ejection seat.
I will never forget the scene and all the reactions from all the people around us.
It's still eery how "quiet" it became even though there was so much going on...

A much-missed sight on the European airshow circuit, the Swiss F-18 demo.
In my opinion, it was one of the most spectacular demos in Europe.

The present and the (not so distant) future were flying together at the Belgian Air Force Days that were held at Florennes airbase this year.
This shot though was taken during one of their rehearsal flights a couple of days before the official airshow.

Time for a throwback to a little over 15 years ago.
In early July 2011, I was at Koksijde to attend the arrivals for the Koksijde International Airshow.

During the arrivals there were also a couple of photoflights that were taking place.

The photoship used for that was this workhorse from the Belgian Air Force that can be seen taxiing towards the active runway on this picture.

Today we celebrate our national holiday here in Belgium.

A couple of years ago, after performing the flypast over Brussels and drawing the Belgian flag colours in the sky above the capital, the Kleine Brogel-based F-16's made this impressive formation flight upon their return to their homebase.

This formation was led by an A-330MRTT from the Multinational MRTT Unit, of which this particular airframe is based at Eindhoven in the Netherlands.
