On Wednesday 1 July 2026 Ethiopian Airlines operated the very first Air Congo flight from Kinshasa to Brussels. All DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) certified airlines are still blacklisted on the EU Air Safety List, so the Congolese airline needed another airline to operate its flights to Brussels via an ACMI wet lease agreement, hence the partnership with its minority stakeholder Ethiopian Airlines, which owns 49% of the Air Congo shares (the Congolese state owning 51%).

Flight ET98 FIH-BRU was operated with Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner ET-ASI which was repainted in a hybrid Air Congo (light) - Ethiopian Airlines livery. After a 07h24m flight, the aircraft made an uneventful landing on RWY at 19:07 LT (CEST / UTC + 2). It is scheduled to fly back from Brussels to Kinshasa on 20:45 LT as flight ET99 BRU-FIH. Air Congo plans to operate 4x weekly flights between Kinshasa and Brussels.

The future will tell if this new flight between the two capital cities is profitable, but this flight will definitely bring some competition to Brussels Airlines which used to have a full monopoly on the direct nonstop flight between Brussels and Kinshasa.

Impressive cumulonimbus clouds tonight over Belgium. You can clearly see the anvil cloud as well as some mammatus.

Unfortunately I have already read several reports of thunderstorms damaging cars and solar panels due to large hail (4-5 cm).

Fly me to the Moon … Austrian Airlines style! 🇦🇹

Few evenings ago the weather was great with nothing but crisp blue skies, the atmosphere had already cooled down a bit and the Moon had risen few hours earlier. Since I had no other special commitments that evening, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to finally chase some ‘mooncrossers’ again (overflying aircraft crossing the Moon).

So I set up my photo gear, checked my camera settings, focused on the Waxing Gibbous Moon and opened my Flightradar24 app. From then on, all I had to do is … well … be very patient and wait (and maybe read a book and get something to drink to prevent possible dehydration).

The hours passed by and all I could enjoy were contrail-producing jets crossing just below and above the Moon as they travelled from one major airport to another. It looked as if my chase would end up being pretty unfruitful.

But then, just as I was about to call it a day, this Austrian Airlines Airbus A320 popped up high in the westerly sky. This particular aircraft - OE-LZP if you’re interested - was operating Austrian Airlines flight OS338 from London to Vienna and had left London Heathrow airport less than thirty minutes earlier.

While already cruising peacefully at FL390 it became apparent to me that this time I could hit the jackpot. So I closed my book, finished my drink, stood up and checked my camera settings one last time. Few moments later I pressed the remote shutter release button just when Austrian Airlines Airbus A320 OE-LZP crossed the Moon. Gotcha!

About tonight’s epic sunset…

Over the last few days, a massive Saharan dust plume over Western Europe has been transforming ordinary sunsets into impressive colourful displays, even causing the Sun and its sunspots to be visible to the naked eye (and photo camera) without filters.

Today’s star at Brussels Airport was - without any doubt - this magnificent Cathay Pacific Airbus A350-941 with registration B-LRJ.

It was the third visit of this aircraft in its new livery but meteo conditions on the previous two occasions were poor.

This Cathay Pacific Airbus A350 is just one of two aircraft currently wearing the airline’s iconic and classic “lettuce leaf sandwich” livery, next to Boeing 747 B-LJE. Another special livery will be announced soon. These new liveries were announced few months ago by Cathay Pacific to celebrate the airline’s 80th anniversary.

Airbus A350-941 B-LRJ is depicted hereon short finals for RWY 25L at Brussels Airport on a sunny morning, inbound from Hong Kong as flight CX291 HKG-BRU 🇭🇰🛫🛬🇧🇪

Did you manage to get a photo of this magnificent special livery at Brussels Airport or another airport?
