On Wednesday 1 July 2026 Ethiopian Airlines operated the very first Air Congo flight from Kinshasa to Brussels. All DRC (Democratic Republic of Congo) certified airlines are still blacklisted on the EU Air Safety List, so the Congolese airline needed another airline to operate its flights to Brussels via an ACMI wet lease agreement, hence the partnership with its minority stakeholder Ethiopian Airlines, which owns 49% of the Air Congo shares (the Congolese state owning 51%).
Flight ET98 FIH-BRU was operated with Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner ET-ASI which was repainted in a hybrid Air Congo (light) - Ethiopian Airlines livery. After a 07h24m flight, the aircraft made an uneventful landing on RWY at 19:07 LT (CEST / UTC + 2). It is scheduled to fly back from Brussels to Kinshasa on 20:45 LT as flight ET99 BRU-FIH. Air Congo plans to operate 4x weekly flights between Kinshasa and Brussels.
The future will tell if this new flight between the two capital cities is profitable, but this flight will definitely bring some competition to Brussels Airlines which used to have a full monopoly on the direct nonstop flight between Brussels and Kinshasa.
