Usquare.Brussels ULB-VUB Usquare.brussels involves the conversion of the former barracks in Ixelles into an open and diverse district.

The work that has started consists of the conversion of seven iconic buildings of the former gendarmerie barracks. Within the ULB, the Usquare team is responsible for the development of an international university campus on the Usquare.brussels site (redevelopment of the former Etterbeek barracks). To carry out the missions entrusted to it, the team, working on the Usquare site, is composed of 4 (

Usquare has been nominated for the first edition of the Architectuurprijs Vlaanderen 2026, organised by the Vlaams Architectuurinstituut.

We extend our felicitations to the exceptional partners whose tireless efforts, commitment and visionary collaboration made this project a triumphant reality: evr-architecten, BC architects & studies & materials, Callebaut Architecten, VK architects+engineers, part of Sweco, VUB - Vrije Universiteit Brussel, ULB - Université libre de Bruxelles, sau-msi.brussels, UR square and Brussels Centre for Urban Studies.
