Dune House by Waechter Architecture | North Oregon Coast, United States

Located among the dunes of the northern Oregon Coast, Dune House combines the simplicity of traditional regional architecture with a refined contemporary approach.
The exterior is wrapped in weathering cedar shingles, while the interior is defined by oak flooring and paneling, minimal detailing and a restrained material palette.

A skylit central courtyard forms the heart of the house, surrounded by bedrooms, living spaces, kitchen and dining areas. Carefully framed views toward the coastal landscape reinforce the connection between architecture and nature.
Designed by Waechter Architecture, the project demonstrates how simple organization, natural materials and controlled daylight can create architecture that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in its surroundings.

MOAPAA: Architecture, Indigenous art and landscape come together in Alberta, Canada

SPECTACLE Bureau for Architecture and Urbanism has revealed new details for the upcoming Museum of Aboriginal Peoples’ Art and Artifacts (MOAPAA) at Portage College in Lac La Biche.
The museum will house the world’s most extensive collection representing the complete Professional Native Indian Artists Inc. group.

Its architecture is closely connected to the surrounding landscape: seven elliptical pathways represent the seven historic PNIAI artists, while a kinetic timber screen responds to the wind and the vertical rhythm of the surrounding Aspen forest.
Inside, retractable platforms and rotating walls allow the galleries to be continuously reconfigured, moving away from the traditional museum “white box”.
Built largely in mass timber and topped by a prairie roof garden, MOAPAA combines cultural preservation, environmental resilience and flexible exhibition design.
The project received a 2025 Canadian Architect Award of Excellence.

Designed by Aarón Cohen, Angélica Mejía, Camilo Sellamén, Camilo Fuentes and Joel Amón, the new buildings for Colegio Colombo Hebreo create a strong architectural identity through exposed concrete, black steel, glass and landscape.
Courtyards, bridges and external staircases connect the different volumes, while deep colonnades and generous glazing create a constant dialogue between interior and exterior spaces.

Hirschbachbad in Aalen, Germany | 4a Architekten

Architecture shaped by landscape, water and light.

The new Hirschbachbad by 4a Architekten brings together sport, leisure, wellness and outdoor swimming within a building carefully integrated into the Hirschbach Valley.

Rather than dominating its surroundings, the complex follows the natural topography through staggered levels, terraces and green roofs. Large glazed façades connect the swimming halls with the landscape, while warm materials, natural tones and carefully placed colour accents give the interiors a distinctive identity.

With indoor and outdoor pools, a 50-metre sports pool, diving facilities, leisure areas and a dedicated sauna landscape, Hirschbachbad demonstrates how complex public architecture can combine functionality, atmosphere and environmental sensitivity.

**Casa Terral by P11 Arquitectos | Mérida, Mexico**

Casa Terral feels very much part of Yucatán.

Designed by P11 Arquitectos in Temozón Norte, Mérida, the 400 m² residence is organised around a central courtyard where an existing tree becomes one of the main elements of the house.

The living spaces open towards the garden, terrace and swimming pool through large glazed openings, bringing air, light and vegetation deep into the interior.

The choice of materials also comes directly from the region. Stone recovered during excavation was reused at the entrance, while Chukum and Kankab, the characteristic red earth of the Yucatán Peninsula, give the façade its warm and textured appearance.

A handcrafted concrete lattice incorporating crushed recycled glass filters light and air on the upper level and has become one of the most recognisable features of the project.

The landscape was treated with the same attention. Existing trees were preserved or relocated where possible, and 17 native trees were planted in the rear garden.

Casa Terral is contemporary architecture, but its identity is clearly connected to the place where it was built.

The Dip Pavilion by andblack design studio, Ahmedabad, India

The Dip Pavilion is conceived as a transparent architectural extension of an existing residential landscape in Ahmedabad.

Designed by andblack design studio, the pavilion brings together a lounge and gym within a generous glass volume positioned beside the swimming pool.
A sculptural roof stretches across the building and descends towards the ground, creating a sheltered entrance while establishing the pavilion’s distinctive architectural identity.

Full-height glazing, slender columns and continuous stone flooring strengthen the connection between interior and garden.
Outside, a floating deck, curtain waterfall and swimming pool form a single composition in which architecture, water and landscape merge.

Restrained in material and precise in form, The Dip Pavilion creates a serene setting for wellness, relaxation and evening gatherings.

Above the Trees by Lechner & Lechner Architects, Austria

Set on a steep hillside overlooking Salzburg, Above the Trees is a private residence designed around its relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Lechner & Lechner Architects used the natural slope to organise the three-storey house, creating a gradual transition from sheltered entrance spaces to open living areas with panoramic views across the treetops and towards the mountains.

Timber construction, exposed concrete and untreated steel define the material character of the house, while timber shingles, extensive glazing and deep terraces connect the architecture with its wooded setting.

Completed in 2019, the project demonstrates how architecture can respond sensitively to difficult topography while creating a strong sense of openness, privacy and connection to nature.

Santa Maria College Cultural Centre by Architectus, Australia

More than a theatre, the new Cultural Centre at Santa Maria College in Perth has been conceived as a cultural, educational and social heart for the campus.

Designed by Architectus, the building brings together a 642-seat main theatre, a flexible 140-seat black box theatre, a dance studio, teaching spaces and professional-grade production facilities.
Set into the College’s steeply sloping grounds, the architecture steps carefully down the hillside. Pumice-pigmented concrete colonnades reinterpret the campus’s existing verandahs, while terracotta-toned ribbed aluminium volumes evoke both theatre curtains and the tiled roofs of the surrounding buildings.

A generous external staircase becomes an informal auditorium and gathering place, while the new “Knowledge Walk” connects the Cultural Centre to the wider campus. It is a building students will move through every day not only one they will visit for performances.
Warm timber, brass detailing, natural light and integrated artwork by Santa Maria College alumna Ellen Norrish give the interiors a strong sense of identity and occasion.

Architectus has created more than a professional performance venue. The project provides a place where students can rehearse, experiment, collaborate and find their own voice.

Amorph Sculpture by Lechner & Lechner Architects — Salzburg, Austria
Amorph Sculpture is conceived not simply as a residence, but as a walkable architectural landscape.
Located beside a pond without direct access to the water, the house was shaped to establish strong visual connections with its surroundings. Its curved floor plans and rounded exterior walls orient the living spaces toward the pond, while additional sightlines frame the Untersberg mountain and Salzburg’s fortress.
Spiral staircases inside and outside create several routes through the building. Terraces extend the interiors into the garden, while wisteria, reeds and a sculptural swimming pool help weave the architecture into the landscape.
Completed in 2013, the residence received the 2024 Architizer A+ Award as a Jury Winner.
