Beauty pageants are a major part of Philippine culture; in fact, the Philippines is one of the most passionate countries in the world about these events. Filipinos often proudly mention that they are the third country with the most Miss Universe crowns, behind only Venezuela and the United States. However, these pageants reflect social issues that are often uncomfortable for the country and rarely discussed.

The village of Kandovan is a little-known gem; it's located in the Osku region of Iran. It's a rural community of 500 inhabitants and 150 monolithic houses, carved into the rocky slopes of the area, much like the famous Cappadocia (Turkey). But unlike the latter, which today is merely an archaeological tourist attraction, the cave houses of Kandovan have been constantly inhabited since the Cave Age, when construction of this site began.
Its difficult location and access, in addition to Iran's almost non-existent openness to international tourism, have kept Kandovan away from visitors; this keeps this village well-preserved, with its traditional way of life.
