How do you differentiate a tanzanite from a sapphire?

Blue sapphire takes on a purer shade of the colour blue whereas
tanzanite typically offers a bluish-violet or bluish-purple hue.

Tanzanites are among the rarest of gemstones, being a thousand times rarer than diamonds. With its limited mining area, pleochroism (ability to showcase different colours when viewed from different angles), along with high demand and scarce availability certainly makes the tanzanite a gem to watch out for.

Finally, after a few months of hard work, the collection of six D flawless polished diamonds is completed. The square step cut or carré cut, not to be confused with an Asscher cut, has 90° corners which makes it one of the most fragile types of diamond cut.
The main 6.50ct polished diamond is accompanied by 3 stones of 0.30ct, a 0.40ct and a 0.50ct stone.

Once the stones are shaped, the next step is to create and form the facets of the diamond. The cutter places the rough stone on a rotating arm and uses a spinning wheel mixed with diamond dust to polish facets on the stone. This polishing procedure is further divided into 2 steps: blocking and brillianteering.
Blocking is the process of creating the big main facets of the diamond where as brillianteering is the process of adding the remaining facets. This last process is essential to determine the fire and brilliance of the diamond.

Next, the main piece is shaped by laser and forms the diamond’s outline. This is crucial to ensure a perfect symmetrical diamond.

Once the planning stage is finalised and the outcome is determined, the next step will be to cut or saw the diamond into multiple pieces. With advanced technology, state of the art manufacturing companies use a laser beam the size of 1/100th of a human hair to cut any possible shape from a rough diamond with minimal sawing loss.
Can you imagine that these six pieces will eventually become sparkling diamonds?! 💎

The very first step towards manufacturing a diamond begins with the process of polishing a very small “window” opening on the rough stone. These so called windows are crucial to be able to discover what mysteries are hidden inside the rough stone. Once the various small windows are polished on the rough stone, the stone will be placed in a machine which will then render three dimensional images of the diamond and will show all the stone’s internal flaws and inclusions. This is called the planning stage.

For the last step in a diamond's journey, a brillianteer adds the final sets of facets, giving the diamond its fire, life and brilliance.
