Nosimon Motorcycles

Nosimon Motorcycles Nosimon Motorcycles is an idea of rebuilding old motorcycles with the parts available of locally made

The word 'Nosimon' came from an idea to meet a need; a need which isn't affordable by most of the people of Bangladesh. The nosimon is a kind of vehicle made by the villagers of Bangladesh, most of them are farmers who need vehicles to carry goods but can't afford buying one. They made frames...installed three wheels; one in front with steering mechanism, two in rear...an obsolete type to brake sy

stem to stop...a 6-12 horsepower diesel engine to run...the diesel engine generally used for irrigation...

I picked this word for my motorcycle for some reasons. The first reason was I couldn't afford buying a new motorcycle that I required for my daily purposes. I bought the bike as almost scrap and slowly restored using second hand but mostly genuine parts, sometimes the parts were even picked from the trash of workshops...

The second reason is most important. Our government banned the use of nosimon on the highways as they aren't well built, they lack proper brake mechanism, they are three wheelers what tend to end up in accidents in the highways causing casualties etc. Many people in rural areas make their living from these vehicles and they started having harder life after their vehicle got banned. Our government could encourage the local mechanics to built nosimons in proper way which might have least chance to fail on the highways. Instead of that the nosimon got banned and that made me picking this word as a protest against the decision of banning the nosimons. Our traffic police even try to seize motorcycles that have simple fog lights...saying modification of vehicles is illegal in Bangladesh. If installing just a fog light is treated as 'illegal modification', I don't have anything to say but to protest in my own way. Some stupid police officers stopped my bikes, some of them wanted to seize the bikes as they are 'modified' in their eyes. I never say they are 'modified'...I say they are 'built'...just like the nosimon...built on purpose of them who don't afford but can build.

Royal Enfield Clubman 500

Royal Enfield delivered a few great models before turning off the power switch of their factory in their final decade. Those models include their no-nonsense Royal Enfield Interceptor 736 MK2 and Royal Enfield Continental GT 250, the only factory caferacer from Royal Enfield back then.

The Royal Enfield factory took the last breath already but that didn't stop the Brit motorcyclists' hearts from thumping. They took the RE singles on the floor and started building their own caferacers. The Royal Enfield Clubman was born. Those enthusiastic motorcyclists didn't cheat on their taste; the singles, the soul of British motorcycling subculture.

The story of other British caferacers is more or less the same.

My humble friend Spike has a Clubman. We rode together sometimes. I better say, we do more discussion than riding. We decided to give my retiring shutter-happy finger some work to shoot the Clubman. I charged the battery, wiped the lens and there are few photos.

What does trigger nostalgia?

Many tiny things that we usually don't notice. The longer I am staying in Australia, the more I have become sensitive to all the tiny things that trigger my nostalgia. Maybe the smell of fire comes from miles away or the look of an old Queenslander house reminds me of my grandfather's massive country house. Or, a squeaky door hinge reminds me of one of the doors of my own house in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

This golden shower does the same. The primary school I went to, is full of these trees on one side. That's the unforgettable memory from St. Mary's School. Besides the golden shower trees in the month of May, the teachers, the Catholic church, the scary little graveyard with the statue of crucified Lord Christ in the middle, the church bell heard in every six hours every day, Sunday mass, peaceful statue of Mother Mary with candles at her feet...the list goes on. I used to collect wax from her feet to make my own candle and lit it there.

I remember, I finished reading 'Three Comrades' and 'A Time to Love and a Time to Die' sitting in the church premises on Saturday and Sunday of the month of May when those trees bring yellow flowers. I started skipping cricket to spend more time reading books there after school hours. I have more memories in that church than any other mosque in my life. It is just a three minute walk from my house.

I found these golden shower in Mackay. It mesmerised me like a rock-solid punch. I had to turn my motorcycle and I went to those trees, sat on the ground, lit my cigarette, I didn't need to close my eyes, I kept staring at the yellow flowers until they became blurry in no time and the memory started flash flooding. I still don't know where they were hiding in all those years.

They were hidden...not lost, not forgotten.

This GT535's roar sounds like music to my ears. A solo ride let me stop wherever I want in the folds of Mount Lindesay. Apart from passing traffic, there was silence everywhere. Sometimes the silence was so loud that I remember what Rumi said centuries ago...

The ocean or the mountain?

Being born in a land between the ocean on one side and mountain range on another, I grew up in the mood for love for both. The stories of Ferdinand Magellan, Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, James Cook, Abel Tasman, William Bligh, Vasco da Gama, Zheng He, Piri Reis etc thrilled me when I was growing up. Their voyages discovered new worlds. Those stories still thrill me as I believe the 'Age of Discovery' is 'debatably'  the best time in recent history. Besisdes those ocean farers, the overlanders who conquered the mountains and discovered new routes also thrills me. I fear the ocean as I don’t know what is under the surface but the mountain calls me. A mountain is  mysterious like women, it smells differently like them at different times. The mountains are secretive and cryptic as well as poetic...only if one tries to read them.

The battle between the ocean and mountain?...Mountain wins...I can ride there but not in the ocean.

Why mountain? Because I remember, Rumi says, 'a mountain keeps an echo deep inside itself. That's how I keep your voice'.

Patch time!

Haven’t sewed it yet but will do it soon. This is from Warwick Screenprinting & Embroidery. Patch time!

They did a good job. I was picky about the colour scheme of the patch and told them to change colours here and there which they did but in a better way than my suggestion.
