On 26th April 2026, Raghu Rai, one of the most influential image-makers of the subcontinent and a lifelong member of Magnum Photos, departed from this world. Yet his gaze endures, transfiguring the ordinary into a dense archive of time, where history, memory, and affect converge.
Taking Saiful Huq Omi’s text ‘বিদায় হে মায়েস্ত্রো’, which approaches Raghu’s work through love, respect, and a deep theoretical inquiry, as a point of departure for this intimate discursive gathering, the faculty and students of Counter Foto will seek to read Raghu across decades. They will engage with his practice that traverses political ruptures, social transformations, and the fragile intimacies of human existence, continuing to speak where language often falls silent.
