বিশাল বিড়াল পরিবারের
অন্তর্ভুক্ত একটি স্তন্যপায়ী প্রাণী। প্যানথেরা
গোত্রের অন্তর্ভুক্ত চারটি বৃহৎ বিড়ালের মধ্যে
এটি একটি। এটি ফেলিডি পরিবারের অন্তর্ভুক্ত
সবচেয়ে বড় প্রাণী। বাঘ বাংলাদেশ ও ভারতের
জাতীয় প্রাণী। পূর্ব ও দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার অনেক
এলাকায় একে দেখা যায়। 'অ্যানিম্যাল
প্ল্যানেট' চ্যানেলের সমীক্ষা অনুযায়ী বাঘ

কানি বক একটি জলের পাখি। শীতের শেষ থেকে শুরু
করে বৈশাখ মাস থেকে বর্ষাকাল পর্যন্ত ডিম
পাড়া চলে। খুব নিরীহ পাখি। পুকুর, খাল, বিল, ঝিল,
নদী সবধরণের জলাভূমিতে এই কানিবককে দেখা
যায়। এর আরেক নাম কোঁচ বক। Pond Heron, (Ardeola
Grayii).
জলার ধারে বসে এই বককে প্রায়ই হঠাৎ করে ছোঁ
মেরে ছোট মাছ, ব্যাঙ খেতে দেখা যায়। বর্শার মত
তীক্ষ্ম ঠোঁট তাদের এই হঠাৎ শিকার পদ্ধতিতে খুব
কাজে লাগে।
মাথায় ঝুলে পড়া সোনালী ঝুটি পিঠের উপর
পড়েছে।
বাংলদেশ সহ ভারতীয় উপমহাদেশ, দক্ষিণ ও পূর্ব
ইউরোপ, মধ্যপ্রাচ্য, চীন, জাপান, দক্ষিণ-পূর্ব
এশিয়ায় এদের প্রধান বসতি।
