Lugano,Switzerland.🇨🇭
Lugano is located in the southern part of the Canton of Ticino , on the northern shores of the lake of the same name (also called Ceresio ), between Monte Bre to the east (925 m above sea level ) and Monte San Salvatore to the south-west (912 m above sea level ).
Its territory, of75.8 km² , it is one of the largest in southern Switzerland and includes, in addition to the urban centre, numerous districts and hilltop locations that extend up to the peaks of the Alta Val Colla , culminating in Gazzirola (2 116 m above sea level.
The urban landscape develops around the glacial basin formed during the Quaternary glaciations, crossed by the Cassarate , which flows from the north towards the lake, and by the Vedeggio , which borders the western plain of the municipality before flowing into the Ceresio near Agno . The hilly reliefs are covered by chestnut and oak woods, while the flat areas host the main roads, residential areas and economic infrastructures. The geographical position, a few kilometres from the border with the Province of Como , has favoured over time the economic and cultural integration with northern Italy and the role of bridge between the Alpine area and the Po Valley.
