The Kutubdia Channel — A Passage of Emotion

Among the many wonders of Kutubdia Island, the Kutubdia Channel holds a special place in our hearts.
This vast stretch of water is not just a means of travel—it is the living bridge between the island and the rest of the country. Islanders cross it daily, navigating their humble boats through the rhythmic waves, each journey echoing stories of life, struggle, and belonging.

As the boat glides across the channel, the eyes are met with breathtaking sights—the expansive mangrove forests standing tall along the coast near the steamer ghat, the quiet dance of small fishing boats spread across the water, and in the distance, the mighty presence of the country’s largest naval submarine base at Mognama.

But what makes this channel truly special cannot be seen—only felt. For those of us who live far from the island, returning home during Eid or any cherished occasion is a journey of the heart. After miles of roads and hours of travel, the moment we set foot on the boat and begin crossing this channel, every trace of fatigue dissolves. A deep calm washes over us—because this channel does not just carry us to the island, it carries us to our roots.

And then comes the other side of the story. The goodbye.
When we must leave behind the warmth of our homeland and set sail across the same channel to return to our busy lives, a quiet sadness takes hold. As the island slowly fades from view, so does a part of us—left behind, held gently by the waves of Kutubdia Channel.
