Scientific name: Nelumbo nucifera
Also known as: Sacred lotus, Indian lotus.

Lotus tuber is a terrestrial perennial aquatic plant. It propagates through tubers. The leaves float above the water, but the tubers or roots remain in the soil under the water. As the water level increases, the trees grow. The leaves are quite large, thick, rounded and green in color. The petiole is quite long, the inner part is very hollow. There are many tiny holes in the inner part of the flower data. Lotus flowers are large in size and composed of numerous soft tender petals. Flowers are erect, pollen is located in the middle. Fresh blooming flowers have a sweet fragrance.Flowers bloom at night and from early morning until the sun rises. As the intensity of the sun increases, the flower shrinks and then blooms again when the intensity of the sun decreases. Blooming flowers thus radiate beauty for a long time. The color of the lotus flower is mainly a mixture of red, white and pink. Moreover, various types of lotus flowers are seen.It has red, white and blue flowers. Lotus flowers can be seen blooming in almost every natural reservoir of Bangladesh like Haor-Banoor, Khale-Bile and Jheel. Flowering begins in monsoon season. But it blooms more abundantly in autumn and its range lasts till Hemantakaal. Eyes widen at the sight of blooming flowers. Fascinated by the beauty of the autumn season lotus flower, many poets have highlighted the color form of the lotus flower in different ways in their poetry. The lotus flower is very dear and sacred to people of Sanatan religion. Especially in Durga Puja, lotus flowers are in great demand and value. Many people make a living by collecting and selling lotus flowers due to the huge demand. Moreover, lotus flower is a flowering plant rich in medicinal properties. Its data can be eaten as a vegetable. Unparalleled in filling the deficiency of calcium in the human body. Very useful in treating itching and bloody dysentery.
