Everyone wants golden hour. And honestly — yes. It’s beautiful. That warm, directional light does something to a photograph that’s hard to replicate.

But here’s what a lot of couples don’t realise: golden hour is only 15 to 20 minutes. If your timeline runs late, it’s gone. Just like that.

The photographers who consistently deliver great images aren’t just chasing the perfect light — they know how to work with whatever the day gives them. Harsh midday sun, patchy afternoon cloud, a completely overcast sky. All of it is workable in the right hands.

Personally? I love a heavy overcast day. The light is soft and even. No harsh shadows. No squinting. No sunnies pushed up on foreheads mid-portrait. Just clean, flattering light that makes the job easier and the images better.

The perfect light isn’t always what Instagram tells you it is. What matters far more is working with a photographer who can read the day, manage the timeline, and make something beautiful out of whatever they’re given.

The first walk as a married couple. Figtree Park, Tilba, bathed in that particular afternoon light that the south coast does so well. Sarah & Lewis didn't need any direction — they just walked, and laughed, and I followed.

His & Hers.

The details are where personality lives. The things chosen, carried, worn — little pieces of who they are, right there on the biggest day of their lives.

Every wedding day is made of a thousand small decisions. The ones that nobody announces but everybody feels — the thing chosen months ago that finally gets to exist in the real world, just for today.

I love photographing details because they tell the truth about a couple. The things they chose, the way they prepared, the life they'd already built together before they ever said a word in front of their people.

These are the things worth slowing down for.

After the formality and before the celebration, there is always a quiet in between. I think it might be my favourite part of any wedding day.
