Another great dance shoot day with Tomi, Leah, Maisy and Lucy at Whitby's Eighteen 91. We are planning further dance days - a great activity for dancers to do with friends, meet other dancers and create stunning images for portfolios, profiles and prints.

Calling Whitby dance students - Spaces have come available at this Monday's dance photography day at

The event is open to students of any Whitby dance school and runs from 10am - 2pm on Monday 31st August at Eighteen 91 on Brunswick Street.

The cost is £50 per person and, after the event, students will receive five fully processed full-resolution digital images from a selection of proofs.

Dancers should bring a drink and packed lunch and parental permission is required for anyone under 18, via email to Paul at [email protected]

BHD Design Ltd is an award-winning architectural and structural engineering company, based in Whitby, and it's been a pleasure to create a series of headshots, group photos and other portraits for the company.

This set of portraits are purely lit by natural light from the large windows of Airy Hill Manor, where the office is based. Prior to the shoot, I visited the stunning, Georgian building to find suitable shooting locations - the pleasant, neutral walls and crisp, white paintwork provided a perfect spot for these photos.

The final images were provided in a closer-cropped 4:5 ratio and these original 2:3 crops also work well.

It was great to work with Luca again today, when he visited the studio for some headshots. I've photographed Luca a number of times and was reminded of my first studio dance shoot with him and Katie from a few years ago. The backlighting is really dramatic in these portraits of two very talented dancers.

It was a pleasure to photograph Jo and Paul's wedding at Redcar Registry Office and Brockley Hall. It was a glorious summer day and we were all entertained by a fabulous group of musicians, including Jo's son, Zak, on sax. Congratulations to the happy couple and thankyou so much for inviting me to be part of your day.

Pre-wedding party at The Gothic Gathering ball

This is a monochrome version of one of my favourite group portraits. The happy couple, in the middle of the photo, are surrounded by their friends, who I arranged to avoid shadows being cast onto each other. Illumination was provided by a very large softbox and a couple of reflectors softened the shadows. Directing the action, I wobbled precariously on a stool while the band played at great volume in the background.

Today, I photographed the Curious Kids Chess Tournament, organised by Whitby Chess Club at Whitby Museum.

The enthusiasm of the young people to the game and the excellent coaching skills of the organisers was a pleasure to photograph.

As it happened, I took lots of photographs of hands!
