Photo of the month (and Peoples' Choice) for December 2025.

Lloyd Anderson - "Balloon over Lake Burley Griffin"
This image was one of many taken just before sunrise, at the Canberra Balloon Spectacular in 2023, on a great club trip organised by Denis. Even though it was early, there was a big crowd and choice positions were at a premium. For those that may be interested the image was captured with a Nikon D780, full frame body, witha Tamron 24-70mm lens at 70mm. Camera settings were, 1/125s, f8, Iso 360 & hand held. It was a toss up as to whether to print it in B&W or colour.

Ian Brown - “California Quail”
The California Quail is a native to North America but there have been introductions into Australia with some healthy populations. This was taken in the ACT. I found the bird to be very quirky with a striking head plume. Being a quail it is mostly ground dwelling but this one jumped into a small bush to hide from me. The shot was taken when he popped out for a look to see if I had left. Lighting was a challenge as it was the middle of the day. Nikon Z8 180-600 @ 230mm 1/1250 @ 6.3 ISO 1600
