For a few weeks each year, ordinary farming country turns extraordinary.

Fields become great blocks of yellow and green, broken only by fence lines, trees and the occasional reminder that these beautiful landscapes are also working ones.

A selection of my photographs of canola country is available as fine art prints through Riptide. Bring a little of the country home.

Sometimes the photograph isn’t the obvious view.

Lens & Pen brings photography and writing together with stories inspired by places, moments and the things we notice along the way.

If that sounds like something you’d enjoy, follow Lens & Pen or explore more of the stories on the website.

It’s live.

When I first began The Lens & Pen Collective, I knew I wanted it to be more than a place to share photographs. I wanted somewhere photography and writing could sit alongside each other - where an image might begin a story, a place might prompt a memory, or an ordinary moment might become something worth paying attention to.

That place now exists.

The new Lens & Pen website brings together Stories of Place and Presence, a growing collection of essays and photographs, links to my fine art prints on Riptide and my photography workshop collaboration with Steve Parish on Nature Connect.

It will also become the home for new stories as Lens & Pen continues to grow.

After months of thinking, writing, photographing, changing things, changing them back again, and probably spending far too much time choosing fonts…

Welcome to Lens & Pen.

Photography that makes you stop.

I’m endlessly fascinated by the colours and textures you find when you stop looking at the whole landscape and start looking at the details.

This fire-scarred tree at Spears Creek caught my eye because of the contrast between the blackened surface and the beautiful warm tones of the exposed timber beneath.

From a few steps away, it was simply a burnt tree. Up close, it became something else entirely.

Tomorrow there are 100 days left in 2026, which seems like a good excuse to do something I’ve been meaning to do for a while - delve into my photographic archive and see what I find.

100 Days / 100 Photos.

One photograph each day, drawn from years of wandering with a camera - landscapes, wildlife, coastlines, country roads, small details and moments that made me stop.

Some will be recent and some will reach further back. Some you may have seen before and others I may have even forgotten that I took!

Just one photograph, where it was made, and 100 days of revisiting the places and moments I’ve photographed along the way.

I'll be sharing one each morning in my Stories, starting tomorrow.

No two mornings are ever quite the same.

I’ve photographed Sawtell at sunrise more times than I can count, yet the light, clouds, reflections and colour keep changing the familiar into something new.

For anyone who knows these mornings, misses them, or simply loves this little stretch of the Coffs Coast, a selection of my Sawtell sunrises is available as fine art prints through Riptide.

Layers of colour at Alligator Gorge.

Dark rock, warm reds and fresh green growth finding every ledge and crevice it can.

I loved the way the colours seemed to divide the gorge wall into layers, each one revealing something different about the landscape.

There’s something mesmerising about watching the ocean from directly above - patterns forming, disappearing and beginning again with every wave.

Sometimes a different perspective is all it takes to see a familiar place differently.

We never waste an opportunity to share the break of day with Mother Nature.

Sunrise over the Southern Flinders Ranges, with the first light spilling across the hills and the sky putting on quite a show.

One of those mornings when all you really need to do is stand there and watch.

Sometimes the photograph isn’t the whole story.

The light changes. The water moves. Colour travels across the wet sand and, minute by minute, the landscape becomes something else.

I have hundreds of photographs from mornings and evenings spent chasing light, but every now and then I remembered to stop taking photographs long enough to record what it actually felt like to stand there and watch it happen.

I’m rather glad I did.
