Outdoor headshots can be absolute magic. Natural light. Beautiful depth. Real world texture.
But here’s the secret most people miss… the background has to suit the person.
The location should support your story, not distract from it.
For example:
• A corporate lawyer in front of graffiti at a skate park? Probably not ideal.
• A financial planner against a chaotic playground? That’s a lot of “risk” energy.
• A wellness coach surrounded by traffic lights and construction cones? Not exactly calm.
• A tech founder posed outside a grand old courthouse? Mixed messaging.
• A children’s entertainer in a dark industrial loading dock? That’s a different kind of party.
When I choose an outdoor location for a headshot, I’m thinking:
✔ Does this reflect their brand?
✔ Will their audience instantly “get” it?
✔ Is the background enhancing them, not stealing attention?
Clean architectural lines can feel polished and professional. Greenery feels fresh and approachable. Urban textures can work beautifully for creatives. The right setting adds context without overpowering the subject.
Your headshot isn’t just about looking good. It’s about looking right for what you do.
If you’re considering an outdoor headshot and not sure where it should be taken, let’s chat. The location matters more than you think.
