An absolute honour to see and photograph my first snake in the wild at the famous Simpson’s Gap in the NT, and what a beauty it is too!

This is a Central Whipsnake ‘Demansia cyanochasma’, only identified as a new species in 2023 from what I’ve read.

Incredibly fast creatures they’re, so to get a pic of one is just brilliant!

Stunning colours on it as well, but I don’t know if it’s a male or a female.

It is a venomous snake but it’s not lethal to humans. They go after small lizards. Case in point, I photographed a beautiful lizard nearby when this guy appeared.

Royal Australian Airforce (RAAF) Gloster Meteor T.7 A77-701, a jet fighter trainer aircraft that entered service with the RAAF in 1951 and participated in trials at the Woomera Rocket Range in 1960. It was powered by two Rolls Royce Derwent engines, it could reach speeds exceeding 800 km/h or 497mph.

The Gloster Meteors were famous for chasing down the feared German V1 Doodlebug Flying Bombs launched from sites like the German Rocket Base at Peenemünde on the German Baltic Coast during World War 2. Like the De-Havilland Mosquito Fighter Bombers before them, the Meteors rose to the occasion.

Unfortunately, when the V2, the world’s first ballistic missile arrived over London, they could not be stopped. These constant rocket and missile attacks from Germany against the British lead to places like the Woomera Rocket Range being established in 1947, to combat the then new world threat of ballistic missiles.

In fact, a lot of the early designs produced at Woomera have eerily similar design aspects to that of the German rockets and missiles during latter years of the War.

This was due to many German scientists and engineers being snapped up by Allied and Soviet-aligned countries shortly after the war.

An interesting surprise for a fire truck fan such as me! Fire 2, a BHP pumper truck turned up at the BP servo at Roxby Downs, SA, on the morning of Sunday, 30th of August, 2026. Naturally enough, I took a photo of the impressive rig. Interesting livery too! #2026

It’s been a while but we’re back to uploading. We see on the second-to-last day of winter, we managed to find and photograph the world famous Sturt Desert Peas (Swainsona Formosa), a perennial herb found in arid regions like in the Far North of South Australia, looking absolutely gorgeous in the outback sunlight, on Sunday, 30th of August, 2026.
