Flame Robin 🔥

This was a first for me and very special to see a few of these brightly coloured gems in a local place. I have been visiting this spot for quite a few years so it was very exciting to meet a new feathered friend.

I thought his posturing was quite interesting. It was like he was wearing tails and missing the top hat.

Jacky Winter ❄️

These sweet little birds were hanging out and feeding with the some Flame Robins on a recent overnight hike I did. They seemed to be favouring one spot on the fringe of some wooded and open country.

One of the skills I learnt in 2025 was how to tan hides traditionally with natural materials provided by the land. So when I came across this beautiful Quoll, who had been hit by a car and was laying in the middle of the road, I wanted to use these new skills to preserve his hide, honouring this endangered species.

A big thank you to .angophora and for getting me started on this tanning journey. Gratitude for my partner Dave, who helped me with the skinning process, the bark who provided me with the tannins, the land that continues to teach me and of course this very special Quoll 🤎

Eastern Yellow Robin 💛

The bravest of all the robins I’ve met. Their signature move is gripping onto trees sideways, scanning the ground for their next meal.

I love the motley colour of this youngster, perched with its parent. Probably the first of multiple clutches this season.

Eastern Whipbird

I never thought I would get a decent photo of this bird. They are almost always scratching around in the leaf litter of dark dense thickets and super shy. Right place, right time!

Eastern Spinebill

One of the things teaches, is to keep an eye out for suspicious behaviour. I was walking down the trail and noticed this Spinebill had an insect in its beak.

A nectar eating bird with an insect = suspicious behaviour!!!

Sure enough they led me straight to their giant fluff-ball fledgling sitting on a vine just off the trail.

I watched as both parents would fly off to take an insect on the wing and come back to feed their baby continuously.

Rose Robin 💕

One of the stars of the recent South Coast Bird Language Retreat. Such a delight getting a glimpse of the vibrant rose-pink colour on the male’s chest. I have found these guys to be the most elusive of the robins found on the East Coast of Australia.

South Coast Bird Language Retreat 2025 🪶

The retreats that creates are always epic! Such a pleasure mentoring at the first, of hopefully many, bird language retreats Bermagui. The perfect location for lots of diverse bird activity, nest finding and hours spent in the bush.

Great company, lots of laughs, sharing stories, learning and discoveries. Not to mention the nourishing and delicious food provided by

I took my camera for a kayak over at the big dam next door. The dam was put in just over a year ago and it has already attracted lots of water birds. This is the very elegant Black-winged Stilt.
