Hi all, it's been a loooong while since I posted on this page. So many life changes since then plus I needed a break from the near constant sports photography.
Here's a brief selection of some of the images take in the gap in the FB record.
Some Grad photos from Maya (2023) and Milli's (2024) grads , also an un-official family wedding photo plus a number of travel photos.
I'll be re-commencing grad photos this year again if you know anyone in this year's cohort that needs a photographer.

Slow speed panning 101 -

Photos are two dimensional. How does one create the illusion of speed?
A trick called panning.
You set your camera to shutter priority and select a slow shutter speed - eg 1/30sec and follow your subject along its path while keeping the camera at an even height - ie don't move it up or down.

Race cars are relatively easy. They are fast & holding a constant speed or smooth acceleration.
Karts are smaller and slower, so a bit harder than race cars.

Rowing gets a bit trickier. The rower's seat slides independently of the boat. And each rower move independently of the other rowers.

So you basically need to pick a central point in the boat - I usually pick rower 2 or 3 in a quad. Singles are a bit easier to get good results.

You wont quite get the same background blur as cars, but hopefully enough to give the illusion of speed and create some cool spray patterns.

Checked the shutter count on my two main cameras for a laugh. Not far off 300,000 shutter actuations on the D4s.😮
This thing is a beast. Nikon pro bodies are almost bulletproof, but might be time for a service soon.
Has been a massive 8 weeks across Jul/Aug/Sept.
I counted 41,221 shutter actuations across the two main camera bodies for this period. That is insane. Or maybe I am perhaps🤪

Plus worked at Townsville Running Festival and the Triathlon Festival as a course photographer.

No wonder I'm tired. 🙃
