These two, oh my heart.... Rachel and Peppa have such an incredible bond, and I feel that knowing the back story will pull on heart strings.
Rachel and I meet when my now 26 year old daughter was in primary school. Rach was relatively new to the school as the PE teacher. Due to an unfortunately and poorly timed dodge ball incident, Rach had need to call me to collect my daughter from school early! We hit it off straight away and a friendship grew. Fast forward some 10 or more years and loads of ups and downs in our lives, Rach was involved in a life changing accident on her ride on mower. Rach spend a significant amount of time in hospital undergoing countless surgeries, and by her side were her incredible children, and partner Dave. By Rachel's own admission, while under the influence of some pretty strong medication, Rachel proposed to Dave, and the next chapter of their incredible love story began. They married in the most romantic and emotional wedding at Wellcamp Airport surrounded by so many friends and family. I was thrilled and privileged to be their photographer for the day and we have a fabulously fun day.
The trauma of the accident was still real and present constantly for Rach, and when delivering their wedding photos, I suggested the possible benefit of an assistance dog. Rach was certain that a dog would not help her. I encouraged her to really think about.
My beautiful fur-baby Frankie, had delivered a litter of pups 6 weeks before this conversation, I had shown Rach and Dave some photos of the puppies as we chatted over coffee and looked through the wedding photos. A few days later, Rach called me and came over to visit the puppies. Despite her daughters choosing another pup for Rachel, she was certain that the 'green collar' pup was for her. Puppy love was instant for them both and a new and incredible love story began.
Fast forward two years, and Peppa is by Rachel's side constantly, she passes her assistance dog assessments with high distinctions, has spent countless hours with Rachel in hospital beds pre and post surgeries, has entertained and been loved by school students around Toowoomba and district, has travelled by plane (the good seats with Rachel) and played mascot to Darling Downs Sports teams all over the state.
Peppa and Rachel are inseparable, Dave of course remains the two legged love of Rachels' life, and together with their children and now gorgeous grand daughter Caroline they make an amazing team.
Over the years I have taken family photos, formal photos, wedding photos and now grandbaby and fur-baby photos with Peppa. I love that I can feel the special relationship Rachel and Peppa share through these photos.
There is something extra special between human and animal, they are so much part of our lives and are so often our family who love us unconditionally. I love capturing the connection between human and fur-baby.
