There’s something about an old house on a winter’s day.
The rain has darkened the road, the clouds hang low over Longford, and this weathered cottage stands quietly beneath it all. Peeling paint, rusted iron, boarded windows – every mark telling a story of years gone by.
Longford is one of Tasmania’s most historic towns, known for its beautifully preserved colonial buildings, grand estates and rich agricultural history dating back to the early 1800s. Walking its streets feels like stepping into another era, where every old home seems to hold a chapter of the town’s past.
On a day like this, it’s easy to imagine the lives that once filled these rooms. The warmth of a wood fire, rain drumming on the tin roof, muddy boots left by the door after a long day on the land.
While many would see an old abandoned house, I see character. A reminder that beauty isn’t always polished and perfect. Sometimes it’s found in the weathered timber, the rusted roof, and the stories that refuse to be forgotten.
