Ryde Truck Crash 2-9-26

Yesterday afternoon emergency services responded to reports of a truck rollover on North Road at North Ryde. Crews arrived to find a truck carrying construction materials had rolled onto its side coming down the hill, crushing the cabin into the steel guard rail. The driver and one passenger of the truck were able to climb free, however one passenger remained crushed between the wreckage and the armco railing.

Firefighters stabilised the truck with a winch, working from ladders with hydraulic rescue tools to cut apart the cabin of the truck, allowing paramedics to access the passenger and provide monitoring and treatment. Firefighters then worked with a combination of airbags and hydraulic rams, supported with large amounts of timber stabilisation, to slowly lift the truck off the railing.

An Alpha Heavy Towing Truck was positioned in case the patients condition rapidly deteriorated and crews needed to perform an emergency lift, along with staging additional equipment such as demo saws and thermal lance if the railing needed to be cut.

In a co ordinated effort between rescue and medical teams the truck was able to be lifted inch by inch enough to free the passenger, who was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

Bradfield Building Fire 20-8-26

This morning Fire & Rescue NSW and NSW RFS crews responded to a fire in a car wrecking yard on a rural property at Bradfield in Sydney's South West. Crews arrived to find a converted structure alight containing several vehicles, car parts and a gas cylinder powered forklift.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus worked to control the fire with multiple foam lines, managing to stop the fire from spreading into the rest of the wrecking yard. Multiple trucks were required to relay water, with the closest hydrants several kilometres away. Once the fire was extinguished RFS crews assisted with mop up and overhaul. One person was treated on scene by paramedics for burns.

Ultimo Building Collapse 3-8-26

Just before 11am this morning emergency services were called to Wattle Street at Ultimo where a building under demolition had collapsed onto an adjoining petrol station, crushing several cars and people standing nearby. First arriving crews located several people within the rubble, who were quickly removed and treated by paramedics. Two victims were transported to hospital with a further five assessed on scene.

Police and firefighters used drones and thermal cameras to search above the rubble as well as laser monitors to detect any further signs of collapse. No further victims were located and crews are working with local council, structural engineers and SafeWork to make the site safe.

25-6-26 Building Fire Chipping Norton

Fire & Rescue NSW crews remained on scene throughout last night and into today continuing to fight a fire which started in a large self storage facility yesterday on Wednesday 24th June. The fire has spread through multiple levels of the facility, with the building beginning to show signs of structural collapse forcing firefighters to attack the fire from the outside. Crews are working from ladder platforms with power saws to cut their way through the walls and roof of the building, as well as using a large excavator to pull apart the building’s iron cladding so firefighters can reach inside. The incident is now a 9th Alarm response and crews continue to fight the fire into Thursday night.

24-6-26 Building Fire Chipping Norton

This afternoon Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to an automatic fire alarm and multiple 000 calls to a fire in a Storage King facility on Governor Macquarie Drive at Chipping Norton. Crews arrived to find a large fire spreading quickly through the facility, with fire jumping from storage unit to storage unit. Firefighters in breathing apparatus used power saws to cut their way into each unit and attack the fire, however continued to be forced back by numerous explosions and heavy fire conditions. The fire then spread into the large multi story self storage facility within the site.

Firefighters worked with multiple hoselines, ground monitors, an aerial pumper and two ladder platforms to control the fire within the rear storage building, as well as extinguish the fire spreading into the multi story storage building. Crews set up several water relays with numerous pumpers from Newbridge Road, as well as using the on site hydrant booster system to increase pressure to the site’s ring main. Firefighters remain on scene into the night working to extinguish the fire.

22-6-26 Building Fire Marrickville

This afternoon Fire Rescue NSW crews responded to reports of a Building Fire on Victoria Road at Marrickville. Crews arrived to find a large fire spreading quickly through the Belvoir Theatre Company production workshop. With heavy smoke pouring from the warehouse, firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the building. As crews attempted to control the fire, numerous gas explosions occurred and parts of the structure began to collapse, forcing crews to withdraw and protect surrounding properties, including a pet supply store attached to the front of the building.

Firefighters worked for several hours to bring the fire under control, using multiple hoselines, ground monitors and three ladder platforms. Crews set up two water relays to bring additional water to the scene. The fire continues to burn in the remains of the building and crews will be on scene extinguishing the fire into the night.
