Sydney Harbour Boat Fire 17-10-26

Just before midday today emergency services responded to a boat fire at Double Bay in Sydney Harbour. Fire Rescue NSW crews worked from the NSW Ports Authority Fire Boat Girawaa to bring the fire under control, before firefighters in breathing apparatus boarded the boat to fully extinguish the fire. The boat has since sunk into the harbour.

Glenfield Hazard Reduction Burn 1-10-26

Today Fire & Rescue NSW crews undertook a controlled hazard reduction burn in the Panorama Estate at Glenfield. FRNSW firefighters undertake these burns under very controlled conditions with extensive planning from the specialist FRNSW bush fire team to ensure they run safely and burn effectively. Crews used a number of pumpers and tankers as well as hose lays into the bush and hand tools to safely control the fire and burn out several hectares of bush.

Brookvale Building Fire 30-9-26

Early this morning Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to a building fire on Pittwater Road at Brookvale. Crews arrived to find the top floor of a three level building well alight. Firefighters in breathing apparatus made their way to the top floor and were working to contain the fire when the fire spread into the roof space, as conditions deteriorated the top floor began to flashover. Firefighters withdrew from the building and worked to control the fire from the outside, including using two turntable ladders. Once the fire was knocked down, breathing apparatus crews re entered the building and worked their way to the top floor to fully extinguish the fire.

Lakemba Building Fire 29-9-26

Firefighting operations remain ongoing at a large fire in a building on Canterbury Road at Lakemba. The fire which started in the basement of a furniture business this morning has continued to spread throughout the large three story building, which contains multiple occupancies. Firefighters remain hampered by difficult access into the basement and extremely challenging conditions inside the building. Several firefighters have been taken to hospital in stable condition.

With the risk the building may collapse, Technical Rescue Firefighters are using laser monitoring to watch the structure for signs of collapse, as well as using drones and thermal imaging. Crews are working from the outside of the building with multiple aerial pumpers, ladder platforms and turntable ladders, with firefighters using power saws, battery tools and ceiling hooks to break their way into the upper floors of the building. Crews have also deployed the TAF-20 remote firefighting vehicle. Firefighting efforts will continue for some time into the night.

Lakemba Building Fire 29-9-26

This morning Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to a fire in a furniture business on Canterbury Road at Lakemba. Crews arriving to find heavy smoke pouring from the basement of the building, with a large fire burning beneath the structure.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus worked their way through the basement, facing high heat and zero visibility, however were hampered by large amounts of stock and increasing fire conditions. Crews were withdrawn from the building as the fire continued to escalate and one firefighter was taken to hospital with non life threatening burns.

Firefighters are at work with numerous hoselines, ground monitors, roof monitors and ladder platforms working to contain the fire and prevent it spreading into the remainder of the building and into surrounding businesses.

Wedderburn Hazard Reduction Emergency 26-9-26

This afternoon NSW RFS crews along with an FRNSW bulk water tanker were conducting a hazard reduction burn at Wedderburn. Crews had burnt 40 hectares when increasing hot and gusty winds pushed the fire out of control, with crews being impacted by 15 metre flames. The fire jumped Katanna Road, with numerous spot fires escaping containment. As crews worked to defend the road several RFS tankers were cut off and overrun by fire, with the trucks catching on fire and crews enacting their emergency burn over procedures.

A significant number of RFS and FRNSW crews along with aircraft responded to assist, with all trapped firefighters being located and successfully extracted to awaiting paramedics. 18 firefighters were assessed by paramedics with 1 taken to hospital. Several tankers were damaged or destroyed. Firefighters continued to work in conjunction with aircraft to bring the fire under control, managing to protect all properties along Katanna Road and managing to contain and extinguish the spot fires. Crews remain on scene into the night continuing to manage the remainder of the fire.

School Fire St Marys 20-9-26

Just after 5pm this afternoon Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to reports of a fire at St Marys Public School. Crews arrived to find multiple classrooms alight, with fire spreading through the roof of the building into multiple parts of the school. Firefighters in breathing apparatus worked with numerous hoselines and tools to pull apart the roof and extinguish the fire, working alongside two Aerial Pumpers. Crews were able to successfully contain the fire to the original building, preventing it spreading into the rest of the school complex.

Strathfield Factory Fire 20-9-26

Just before 4am this morning Fire & Rescue NSW crews responded to reports of a Factory Fire on Dunlop Street at Strathfield South. Crews arrived to find a fire in a mechanical workshop within a row of factory units, with fire burning through the roof of the building and beginning to spread into surrounding businesses.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus used power saws to cut their way into the workshop, as well as into the adjoining units, facing intense smoke and fire as they entered the building and worked to contain the fire. Firefighters used Aerial Pumper 47 to extinguish fire burning on the upper level mezzanine which crews were unable to access due to collapse. Despite the intense conditions, firefighters successfully managed to bring the fire under control and prevent it to spreading through the rest of the complex or into surrounding homes.

Never Forget 🇦🇺🇺🇸

Today we remember the 343 fire fighters, 60 police officers, 8 EMTs and countless civilians who died in the most barbaric, pointless, horrific attack the world has ever seen.

An unusual token of respect, randomly numbered is Fire and Rescue NSW 343 station Katoomba. When the number was assigned to the station, 343 meant nothing, just a random a number. It now represents not only bravery, heroism and the stance of the free world against terrorism but also the supreme sacrifice made by the FDNY on the 11th of September, 2001.

Without the efforts of the FDNY, the 20,000+ people inside the World Trade Centre would not have stood a chance against intense fire raging throughout the towers and the imminent structural collapse.

We will never let the sacrifices of the men and women of the FDNY on that day go to waste.
