This image is born from a feeling I have carried since my teenage years. Back then, after every Iftar during Ramadan, I would step out onto our fourth-floor veranda, letting the evening settle around me. The air felt softer, the streets quieter, and time seemed to slow down. Sometimes my sister would join me, and we would stand side by side, saying little, just taking in the world below.
Now, almost 30 years later, Ramadan still brings me back to that same moment. After each Iftar, no matter where I am, I find myself returning to that small, peaceful space in my memory—a place I miss deeply.
This piece is my attempt to hold onto that feeling. It blends my teenage self with who I am today, merging two worlds—my veranda in Bangladesh and my present life in Melbourne. The rain, the lights, the quiet city below… all of it carries the nostalgia, longing, and warmth of those evenings.
It is not just a scene—it is a memory, a bridge between time, and a reflection of how certain moments never really leave us.
