Former Newtown Hoyts on King Street, Newtown.

This is not to be confused with the Hub Theatre opposite Newtown Station. That was originally named Clay's Bridge Theatre, and didn't become the Hub until 1939.

"Located in the Sydney inner-city district of Newtown. The building was constructed in the 1890’s as the Newtown Swimming Baths and Winter Skating Rink. It was converted into a department store in the early-1900’s.

On 30th December 1914 it was converted into a cinema, known as the Hub Theatre with 882 seats. Later taken over by the Hoyts Theatres chain, it was re-modelled in an Art Deco style by architect William T. Leighton in 1934, and re-named Hoyts Newtown Theatre.

Hoyts Newtown Theatre was closed in September 1959, a casualty of the introduction of television in 1956. It was gutted internally and became a community centre.

In the the late-2000’s, it was converted into apartments, with a restaurant operating in the former entrance foyer area. The attractive Art Deco style facade remains on King Street.

Metropolitan Street, Enmore. This is the Enmore Tabernacle, which opened as a Church of Christ in 1886.

In 1986, the church celebrated its centenary, before closing shortly afterwards. It is known these days as the Fijian Seventh Day Adventist Church.
