Total Lunar Eclipse! As the Moon passed through the deepest portion of the Earth's shadow, around 4am local time, the collective light of all our sunsets created this rich dark red hue.

M16, the Eagle Nebula, captured from bortle1 dark skies of the Warrumbungles national park. The nebula is a large interstellar cloud of gas and dust where new stars are being born, located 7,000 light years away. The iconic "pillars of creation" made famous by the Hubble Space Telescope in the 90s (that photo went "viral" before social media) are seen in this image. This is total of 90 minutes integration time, shot using the Seestar S50.

The Large Magellanic Cloud over the Warrumbungles, featuring Belougery Spire (a 90-million-year-old trachyte plug, the solidified core of an ancient shield volcano) and Bluff Mountain, the park’s tallest peak, carved from similar volcanic roots and standing guard at ~1,200 m. These rugged remnants were shaped by 13 million years of erosion — patience level: geologic. Above them, the Large Magellanic Cloud, an irregular dwarf galaxy ~160,000 light years away, locked in a gravitational waltz with the Milky Way. Captured on a cold, dark night, with a bunch of kangaroos for company. They didn’t help with focusing, but at least they didn’t hop into the frame. Single shot with Nikon D810A on 50mm lens: One shot, countless stars, two ancient giants, and zero roo selfies. 🔭🌌 🦘

When ancient Earth meets eternal sky ! The basalt rock formations at the Bombo quarry took shape from volcanic eruptions, around 250 million years ago, about the time it takes for the Sun to complete a single orbit around the Milkyway galactic centre.
