Every year we do something small to celebrate a health challenge I faced on May 4th in 2017.
It was one of those life changing moments where I had to decide how I was going to handle it: with a sense of hope and a good attitude? Or with self-pity and despair?

I certainly felt despair at times but I never asked ‘Why me?’. I mean, why not me? Hospitals are filled with people and children going through health challenges - why should I be immune. I didn’t feel like life was targeting me in particular. And I felt like ‘Why me?’ was a selfish question to ask.

Instead I focused on what good I did have in my life and I made a point to focus on one good thing every day. It might just be that the sun was shining that day, or that I could make it outside for fresh air, or that I got one step closer to leaving the hospital. There was something good, however small, in every single day.

And that remains my philosophy- look for and be grateful for one good thing (or beautiful thing) every day. Because those small things are there and they are wonderful. ☀️

What is one good (or beautiful) thing today?
For me, it’s the lovely sunny Sydney weather.
