Odd [bird]man out.
The farm that we stayed on had a lot of birds. "A lot" doesn't even begin to describe the number and types that lives around there, and from my own observation, there were galahs, magpies, white-faced herons, black-faced cuckooshrikes, Australian figbirds, magpie larks, pied butcher birds, grey butcher birds, noisy miners, rainbow lorikeets, eastern rosellas, grey shrike-thrushes, several finches, and last but not the least the magnificent laughing kookaburras. There were others too, which I could not identify.
Before heading to the farm, I had enthusiastically rented a super telephoto lens (Sigma 150-600mm Sports), imagining that I could get good bird shots. Alas! My birding skills were found wanting, but there was one particular family of noisy galahs (aka rose-breasted cockatoos) that have made the several trees on the farm their home(s), and even though the galahs are not unique in this part of Australia, they proved to be good subjects to practise my bird photography.
I've had limited birding experience, but I thought it wouldn't be too hard; I now have a healthy respect for even amateur bird photographers.
