Australian Zebra Finch.
Tiny, boisterous and busy as hell, zebra finches swarm in the hundreds between their roost and watering holes on and around Uluru, creating quite a buzz and enthralling visitors around Kuniya Walk.
Hard to do much birding with a 200mm but managed these with some close cropping. Could be quite an interesting bird to capture with its unique and curious coloration.

Kata Tjuta sunset seen from Yulara. The best colors I have ever seen for a sunset.
Sunsets and sunrises in the spiritual heart of Australia are simply magical. I wonder if the Anangu, Pitjanjajara and their Aboriginal ancestors ascribed spiritual significance to the magnificent, awe inspiring, imposing geological formations of Uluru and Kata Tjuta owing to their magnitude, to the harshness and beauty of the landscape and to the reminder of the relative place of humans on this planet in relation to them. It’s hard not to feel small and insignificant in front of them and yet feel a sense of awe and oneness with nature and the Universe under the beautiful night skies here. This is a pilgrimage; not a tourist visit.

The wealthy person's backyard.
I've always wanted to have a nice yard with a lawn... until I read Yuval Noah Harari's "Homo Deus". Harari explains how lawns came to be seen as a symbol of prestige and wealth because without sprinkler systems and lawn mowers, only the ultra rich in the medieval times could afford to have lawns in their front yards by employing humans to do the work of modern day equipment. The rich therefore displayed their wealth by growing a neatly human-manicured lawn in their front yards. As time went by, humans continued to view lawns as a prestige symbol, and hence the craze for lawns still continue. With this knowledge, would you still want to shell out money to have a lawn in your front yard, or rather spend your money on something more useful?
In a beautiful valley such as this, where one could have naturally created lawns in their backyards, how would one measure wealth and richness?

Odd [bird]man out.
The farm that we stayed on had a lot of birds. "A lot" doesn't even begin to describe the number and types that lives around there, and from my own observation, there were galahs, magpies, white-faced herons, black-faced cuckooshrikes, Australian figbirds, magpie larks, pied butcher birds, grey butcher birds, noisy miners, rainbow lorikeets, eastern rosellas, grey shrike-thrushes, several finches, and last but not the least the magnificent laughing kookaburras. There were others too, which I could not identify.
Before heading to the farm, I had enthusiastically rented a super telephoto lens (Sigma 150-600mm Sports), imagining that I could get good bird shots. Alas! My birding skills were found wanting, but there was one particular family of noisy galahs (aka rose-breasted cockatoos) that have made the several trees on the farm their home(s), and even though the galahs are not unique in this part of Australia, they proved to be good subjects to practise my bird photography.
I've had limited birding experience, but I thought it wouldn't be too hard; I now have a healthy respect for even amateur bird photographers.

Until the cows come home.
I've heard this phrase so often in the past couple of years in a corporate/ consulting setting, denoting an urgency to act on something and to be productive, but this past week I stayed on an idyllic farm in an idyllic town in the idyllic , where every day I saw the cows actually come home, and yet there was no sense of urgency. I didn't have to go anywhere, or finish a burning task, or worry about client deliveries or billable hours. I could continue doing the same thing I did the entire day, which on some days was absolutely nothing, and yet the cows came home just fine.
I did not sleep any less or any more, but still felt that there were enough hours in the day. From the time the roosters crowed and the kookaburras laughed at the crack of dawn, to the time that the cows came home in the golden light of dusk, the days were blissful and the heart was content.

Beautiful sunlight streaming through the skylight in our kitchen this morning.
Trust to pick beautiful flowers from the garden to adorn our kitchen counters, work desks and book shelves.
Lemons are store bought… just saying.
