The Helix Nebula
Designated as NGC 7293 is commonly referred to as the Eye of God or even the Eye of Sauron. It is one of the closest planetary nebulae to Earth, at around 650 light-years away in the constellation Aquarius. It is a planetary nebula of gigantic proportions, with its bright ring stretching across nearly three light-years and dimmer, outer features extending even farther.

I haven’t had a working computer for editing my Astro images for around 6months now. Im so glad to have a fast computer to run pixinsight on.

I have missed this so much.. there’s just something different about standing under the sky full of stars with your camera in the pitch black with no one else around.
Something that I have definitely missed!
I went back to basics last night only using a tripod and my DSLR and to be honest it was quite enjoyable not having to lug around the star tracker.
This image was taken with my old faithful Canon 6D with the Samyang 14mm F2.8 stopped down to f4, 20sec exposure at ISO1600.

Messier 78

Messier 78 is a reflection nebula located approximately 1,600 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Orion. known for its bluish glow caused by starlight reflecting off interstellar dust.

I’ve tried to image this target several times over the past few years and i have always ended with bad images due to the seeing, guiding or clouds. Im happy to be able to finally tick it off the list.

Shot in HA LRGB the total exposure time is 4hours and 7mins.
