One thing I never want to forget as a mum is the games I played with my kids when they were little like this. I love remembering the laughter. Whenever I see photos like this of my own family, it takes me straight back there, I can remember their eyes looking into mine, the funny things we said to each other, their complete idolisation in their eyes when they would look up at us. Thank goodness for photos, I think I’d forget a lot of it otherwise.

Home is where the memories are true.

Just you, in the beautiful baby bubble. Playing the guitar you always play. Feeding on the couch you always sit on. Loving the love that made this little piece of both of you.

This new family let me into their world exactly as it is, sleep deprived, head over heels, completely them. And that’s why these photos will still take their breath away in twenty years.

Your home holds your real life. That’s where the story is.

This gorgeous little tabletop mirror meant something special to these new parents, so we found a way to bring it into their newborn session and now it holds this. Mum and bub, tucked inside a frame that will sit in their home for years to come.

This is why I love photographing newborns at home. The meaningful little pieces of your life get to be part of the photos too.

Newborn photos don’t have to be like everyone else’s.

That gap-toothed grin? You’ve got about five minutes with it.

Then the big tooth pushes through and it’s gone, and you’ll barely remember the wonky little smile that’s beaming at you right now.

It’s the same with all of it. The chubby hand that still reaches for yours in the carpark, the way they pronounce “lellow”, the way they ask you why for EVERYTHING, and the current obsession you’re sick to death of hearing about.

You think you’ll remember it, you won’t. Not the exact sound of it, not the way it made you laugh on a Thursday. It slips away so gradually you don’t even notice it’s gone.

That’s the whole reason I do this. To catch the version of them you’ve got right now, gap tooth and all, before they swap it for the next one.

These little details are the ones you’ll give anything to see again.
