The Formula 1 World Championship moves to Qatar this weekend for the penultimate round of the season and it promises to be THE pivotal race of the year to date.

McLaren's disqualification from the Las Vegas Grand Prix certainly helped Max Verstappen's title hopes and perhaps also aided Piastri even though he now sits in a tie with the Oracle Red Bull Racing driver for second place.

Those lost points sees the Australian 24 points adrift of his teammate and not the 30 points as it stood in the moments after the race itself.

There are currently three drivers still with a chance of winning the title, depending upon the outcomes from this weekend.

Lando Norris is presumably in the box seat.

To put it simply- he wins or finishes two points clear of Verstappen and Piastri in Qatar and he becomes World Champion.

Verstappen and Piastri really have to have a win at all-cost approach just to remain in title contention.

A win for either and no points for Norris would see at least two of these drivers, if not all three, in a winner-take-all finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix a week later.

Wouldn't that be a promoter's and a television broadcaster's dream scenario!

The Losail circuit is considered to be a high-speed and high-downforce, the type of circuit often referred to as Oscar Piastri's ideal configuration.

The smooth racing surface also lends itself to lower ride heights, a factor which might play on the minds of the McLaren team in light of Las Vegas.

On paper it would seem to favour McLaren and Oscar Piastri did win the Sprint Race last year.

However, it was Max Verstappen who took pole position for the Grand Prix and headed George Russell and Piastri to the finish line.

Will history repeat itself in 2025?
