Arkadius.photography Documentary and street photographer. Based in the Blue Mountains - originally from Poland via London and Sydney. Hello and Good Day!

Co-curator of Homeless - An Exhibition for Change. Founder of Wear for Change, a social enterprise built on four years of protest photography I go by He/They and my name is Arkadiusz. People also call me Ark, Arka, Arek, Arkie and Arkadius. I was born in Poland where I grew up and spend most of my adult life in London, UK. I’m currently living on Eora Nation which is also called Sydney. I’m a self

-taught photographer and camera has become my tool of choice, a portal allowing me to travel in-between the worlds; to seeing extraordinary in everyday moments and sharing it with others through my photos. I also see the dark side of the world and don’t turn my eyes away from peoples suffering and social injustice thus my interest in documentary and artivism. I love adventures and experiencing what life has to offer. For me, true happiness comes with freedom. Freedom of movement and freedom of expression; ultimately freedom of body, mind and spirit. Amongst other things, I’m currently exploring and deepening my practice of Yoga and Contact Dance, as well as working on a new photographic project.

I've been putting off writing this post for a long time.

My visa expires in two weeks. The only way I can stay in Australia with Courtney and our daughter Anya is a Partner Visa that costs over $12,000.

I started a fundraiser over a year ago but was too anxious to share it. A few of you even donated, and I want you to know — that meant the world to me and still does.

But now I'm out of time, and I'm asking openly.

I came here from London as an artist. I fell down a waterfall in the Blue Mountains. That's how I met my Love, Courtney. We had a daughter that doctors said couldn't happen. We created a home, grew a garden, found our people.

Now all of that is at risk — not because of anything we did, but because of bureaucracy and finances.

If you can donate, the link is in my bio. If you already gave last time, please know how grateful I am — a share is more than enough. And if you can't do either, sending love means something too.

Thank you 🦋

what Contact Improvisation is to you ?
..

All photographs* seen below were taken during CI50 (event celebrating 50th anniversary of Contact Improvisation form) on the 9th of July 2022 in Sydney, Australia.

To me, a big part of this practice is an ongoing exploration and investigation of relationships…

Be it gravity. Floor. Time. Space. Bodies. My body. Other bodies. Awareness. Different quality of connections. Connection with individuals, with self, the collective and the source.

Big gratitude to the founders of this beautiful form.
To all the organisers, teachers, participants and contributors of this event - Thank You

Last March I had the privilege to attend ACROLife retreat in magnificent Sea Eagle Point.

Braithwaite, Mathieu and Justin have successfully created a safe environment and facilitated beautiful activities allowing us to practice trust and to work through our fears. Our connection grew by learning how to work together and support each other, not to mention sharing soulful meals after each session prepared with so much love and passion by our very special chefs Gabi & Pedro Henrique Pedroza. In fact the only ‘Acro’ pose you’ll see on the pics shows them beautiful flying chefs.

Zoe has dreamed and made this incredible event come true but the credits must also go to each and every single person who was there. Everyone’s contribution added to the whole experience. And it was priceless!

It’s ’only’ been a weekend and yet, it’s impossible for me to point out all the amazing things experienced during this time.
Swimming (did I said naked?) with Molly Milagros Reinhart in the lake with a setting sun 🌅, shaking bum to samba with Cassie Dianne 💃, trippin’ (quite literally) during the Sound Journey experience with Matt Omo Sound Journeys and making love with the universe (Yess!) - one of a kind experience facilitated by Simon Borg-Olivier and Jennifer Genest just to name a few!

I arrived there without knowing a single person but departed with an immense feeling of wealth and gratitude to have met so many wonderful people. This album is dedicated to them. Friends. 🙏🏽❤️

Day IX - 22 July 2021, Newtown.

“As a species, we are living much longer than ever. But not much better. Not at all. Over the past century we have gained additional years, but not additional life—not life worth living anyway” - says one of the quote from the book read by this man sitting on a bench in Camberwell Park. ‘Lifespan: Why We Age - and Why We Don’t Have To’ by David A.Sinclair.

I look up in search for the answer

“LOVE IS THE ANSWER”

Life is worth living!

Or this is all just a dream…
‘Essential Walk Around the Block’ was born in response to extended Sydney’s lockdown which still continues today. One day, during our usual stroll with my partner Karen, a thought entered my conscious mind, “Let’s bring cameras with us! Whether it’s to grab a coffee, pick up groceries or catch some sun.” And so we did, from the very next day!
As we’re both curious and playful (more so Karen) humans, it has quickly become more and more interesting. With each day, we find more magic around us. Listening to the subtle whispers of invitation and yielding to curiosity. We go out with no clear purpose. We open ourselves to receive the offers of our world around us. And we share a little bit of that magic with you. You might be encouraged to explore the magic held within your own town. We invite you to share your discoveries with us! And please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you. :)

Day IV - 16 July 2021, Rozelle/Lilyfield
As I was going through the pics from that day, I was thinking of the words to accompany this selection best. I couldn’t really come up with nothing of my own and left it for a time being. A little later, after dinner Karen sat on the sofa and went on through her book. She laughed out loud and when I turned she had this letter (yes, the actual piece of paper with hand-written message on it) in her hand which was in between the pages of her book. It was a letter I’ve written and send to her last year. I sat by her side and read it again. That was it, the words I’ve been looking for…

“Hello my Love,
The other day, while walking and exploring Central Coast, I came across this incredible gum tree. It wasn’t just any gum tree. Its crunches spreading long in every possible direction; north, east, south, west, and everywhere in-between. Growing upwards and towards the earth, bending, and twisting. Nothing like I’ve seen before! So beautiful. One of the nature’s miracles. Magical. It reminded me of you, expanding your infinite creativity and your strong connection with Nature and spiritual realm.
Coming back to present… I just went for a walk, dancing through the park and playing with a tree, another gum tree in fact. I’ve tried to imagine how it would be with you being here. Dancing and playing together. To look into your eyes reflecting all the beauty of Nature and embrace you with my arms. Feeling your energy and seeing you smiling. The sun on your skin, kisses. Mmm… this daydreaming is taking over me… .

I was just thinking… if the restrictions were lifted (and they don’t kick me out of this country), maybe I could come visit you in Adelaide before your journey back to Brisbane and, perhaps accompany you on the way there. I miss you dearly and would love to spend some time together.

Just saying my thoughts out loud…”

Day III - 15 July 2021, Balmain.

“Watch the movie of life unfold.”
Something different. Something new. It was the first time when we both had cameras with us. In turn, it led us to capture each other. A glimpse behind the scenes of our walks. Seeing what another is noticing. We are not only getting to know our surroundings better, but one another, too. Have you noticed the Bum-Tree!? In fact it was the first thing Karen has noticed and captured - I’m impressed! I also rarely like the photos taken of me so I’m really happy with these results. Well done Love!

Between Two Worlds.

(I didn’t feel like writing much today and decided to choose only Three words to describe that day)
