A massive day covering the Cabramatta Full Moon Festival.

Summer-like weather on Sunday 24 September made for a great day out for more than 90,000 people who came to enjoy Fairfield City’s annual Cabramatta Moon Festival.
Master of Ceremonies and Seven News presenter Mark Ferguson hosted the official ceremony and welcomed back Dami Im to the Cabramatta Moon Festival.

Local young Bossley Park High School student Olina Loau delighted crowds singing Advance Australia Fair, as well as paying tribute to headline act Dami Im by singing Dami’s song “Sound Of Silence”.

This was followed by an official opening count down by Mayor Frank Carbone and Dami Im, confetti cannons and coloured glitter showering the audience, Lion Dancers performed in front of the stage, to declare the Cabramatta Moon Festival officially open.
Food lovers enjoyed substantial fare from Cabramatta’s 140 restaurants, as well as treats from the dozens of stalls selling moon cakes, noodles, seafood, fresh coconut juice, sweet corn and more. The meat jerky, fairy floss and snack foods were popular, as were the 10 specialty food trucks on site and the engaging Bearded Bakers making their Jerusalem street dessert, knafeh.

The festival included crowd favourites such as the pho eating, moon cake eating and one-handed prawn peeling competitions, and the children’s chopstick challenge. The sideshow games and amusement rides such as a giant slide, dodgems, Hurricane and Round Up were also very popular.

Headline act Dami Im was a huge hit and left no one in doubt as to why she captured much world-wide attention at Eurovision 2016. Dami sang some of her original songs as well as a few of her favourites.

Children were enthralled when they had the chance to meet Peppa and George Pig and have selfies taken with them, and to also meet the Minions. They were also kept busy with face painting and craft activities, dinosaur riding, a jumping castle and more.

A new attraction at this year’s festival, a Moon art installation, also proved popular, with people queuing to take their photo in front of the 2.4m diameter moon, which featured LED lights programmed to change colour and animate the art piece.

The evening ended with an amazing fireworks display hosted by AirAsia that lit up the sky with 6,000 individual fireworks, launched from two locations over the town centre.
Fairfield City Council thanks all of the 200 volunteers, Cabramatta LAC – NSW Police Force, St John’s Ambulance, PCYC and Fire and Rescue NSW and the many community groups who provided assistance in the lead up to and on the day of the event. Without the continued support of our volunteers and valued sponsors a festival of this scale would not be possible.
