My winter trip with the hope of astro photography took me to new areas and down new roads and met new people as well as some favourite areas.
Day1 was a quick trip down the coast to Bermagui. A quick reconnaissance of Horse head rock and I realised that the Galactic centre was busy rising as the sun was setting.
A quick trip back to the car to collect my gear and run back for a few hours with the horse. Left early to beat the tide and find somewhere to sleep and have dinner. the caravan park just down the road sorted both needs. Burger and beer at Camel rocks Cafe.
Back to the Horse first thing in the morning, then find a little breakfast, a coffee and fuel for the trip across the mountains.
The destination was Bundarra Berkshires farm just outside of Barham. A fantastic winding drive that went through Cooma and Tumbarumba and then a dash halfway across the state. No stars unfortunately and with a late start I did not stop and take any photos.
Day 3 was announced by the farms magnificent rooster, a quick walk around the property and chat to Lauren then hit the road. Heading along the river to Mildura pick up supplies then head north to Mungo 120km from Mildura on about 90km of corrugated dirt.
The clouds persisted but started to clear on Day 4
camera in hand all day. From sunrise to well past sunset. The drive round the Lake and the views from Vigars wells are well worth the time. Leave an hour to get round from late afternoon bird watching at the wells to get back to the Red top lookout for Sunset.
The lookout near the campsite is great spot to access the Lakebed for wide horizon to horizon milky way photos.
Last day, hot shower, a cup of coffee a few photos of the sunrise then a long drive home.
