One of the most memorable driving experiences I have ever had. A weekend getting coaching in '60's style F2/F3 classic racing cars with Julien and his team from Classic Racing School and none other than Loic Depailler (son of F1 Driver) where they take you on a step by step journey to go fast, while remaining safe, and learn what it was like to drive these addictive cars that were raced more than 50 years ago.

Yes I could have paid to drive a supercar on a race track but why, to go fast in a straight line, too boring. Driving one of these machines is challenging and humbling as it looks easy from the outside.

Circuit De Charade is one of the best tracks I have driven on next to Nordschleife, Spa Francorchamps, Mount Panorama Bathurst and Phillip Island with fast parts, slow parts, blind corners, undulation and even amazing scenery - a track from a by gone era.

Even more amazing is the 'old circuit' that was left after the track was made shorter is now a public road that wraps itself around a huge mountain.

A cliche but a bucket list experience for sure.

Is the Eiffel Tower over rated as a site to visit? That was the question I was asking myself after a few different attempts to see it at different times of day or from different locations. It does literally tower over everything in Paris no matter which direction you look and I think dusk or night time when it is lit up it looks its most attractive.

Although I am not sure that I was totally blown away by seeing it for the second time in my life in person. It was built between January 1887 and March 1889. It was constructed as the grand entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair and to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution.

Today its a bit of a melting pot of street hawkers trying to sell cheap photo shoots, flashing key rings, bottles of wine, river cruises timing their perfect pass and even fairy floss in between all the influencers trying to get their magical "I am here and nobody else is while I pose very unnaturally" perfect photo for Instagram.

Maybe after walking through ruins in Italy that are thousands of years old I am just spoilt for grand visual sites to stare at? Or I am losing my marbles?

Either way I had a fun time trying to take some photos of Loise and the people playing ping pong before the sun faded.

A little bit of art and culture in Paris. First time visiting the Louvre, going inside Notre Dame (instead of just looking at it from the outside), discovering there is a Panthéon in Paris and wandering around Montmartre.

I was curious to see what all the fuss was about with the Mona Lisa so we planned to visit the Louvre very late in the day & we are glad we did as the crowds weren't as big. As I am sure thousands of others have said it can be a little underwhelming in that this tiny painting is surrounded by these huge pieces of artwork it almost seems out of place, but nonetheless that is a life item ticked off.

The Panthéon was a bit of a surprise for me which was filled with artworks and beneath the main floor was its huge cript that was also open to the public. Lovers of art, design or architecture would love this site.

Notre Dame you wouldn't even know it was nearly destroyed just a few years ago, inside looks incredible considering what had occurred. The sandy colours against the bright colour glass artwork looks impressive.

Montmartre is a nice departure from the busy central part of Paris with its quaint alleyways filled with food temptations, arts and crafts, you can easily spend a couple of days exploring.

Wandering the streets of Paris. I have been once before on a whirlwind bus tour many, many years ago, but this time it has been a slower trip living in a typical apartment on the edge of the city and experiencing life a little more like a local would in Pernety amongst the narrow streets full of character with cafes, fresh food sellers and boulangeries ready to tempt any food craving you can imagine.

Beyond the iconic destinations as you wander and explore you soon find beautiful shopping or eating arcades, lush green open spaces where people gather, live music, people having picnics, historical sites and more.

I heard many people say 'Paris is not France and France is not Paris', I get what they mean as I had just come from a regional town so the contrasts are many. Paris is like many of the other large cities where it has a dual function of being a major tourist destination but also a place where many locals go about their daily lives.

I think depending on where you stay & the type of accomodation your experience will differ greatly. I enjoyed this trip so much more than my first one which was a couple of nights in/out of a hotel, dashing from spot to spot in a tour of 50 people.

Being able to walk the streets at different times of the day gives you a greater sense of what it is like to live here. Getting around is easy with lots of choices between bus, bicycle, metro or train with each having their own benefits.

While I probably just scratched the surface of what there is to see and do it was an enjoyable stop and worth doing at least once in your lifetime.
