Rental Snake and Murray Doon @ FREEKIN WEEKEND Festival, Factory Theatre 21-09-22

I feel like I’ve gone right back to where I began. I have been sick with Long COVID but have been healing. I could barely make it through the first act. I’m sure one of these were taken at sound check. Hopefully in a few months I’ll be able to take photos for a full show.

Anyway, I loved as much as I could hear. And next time there’s a Factory daytime gig I’ll make sure to dust off my camera and bring it along. Photos were taken with my iPhone 8 😅

These have been the hardest photos I’ve ever worked on. As you know Mike Noga passed away this week. He was a talented singer and musician and all round nice guy. These photos come from his gigs at Annandale Hotel and The Factory Floor in Marrickville. I remember that Factory Floor gig like it was yesterday. I was so anxious about going but then Mike started talking about how he was having a panic attack and it made me feel less alone, because when we have anxiety or depression we feel like no one could ever understand, when in truth they do because they may be experiencing the exact same thing. Mike made me realise that in his own nervous self-deprecating humorous way.
The last words I said to him was ‘if you're ever in Sydney, I’ll come to a show’ and that will never happen, ever again. And that just tears me up inside.
So, all I have is these photos and the memories they conjure. And his music of course, that will live on for generations.
Let’s just remember the good times. The way his music made us feel. The calmness of his acoustic shows, his songs you’d get so wrapped up in that you’d forget about your problems for a short time. His in between song banter. Those amazing clothes that you never thought you’d pull off as well as he did.
We’ll miss you Mike.

Despite being declared an illegal protest until last minute some 20,00-40,000 protesters took to the streets of Sydney in solidarity to black deaths in custody in the US and indigenous deaths in custody here in Australia.
I started out at the back and made my way into the middle of the march and tried to get the best photos I could. But it has been years and I'm a bit rusty.

Made the spontaneous decision to take my camera to Dulwich Hill Festival. It was a fun day filled with music, food stalls, face painting for the kids, information from certain groups and more that showed the rich diversity in Sydney's inner west.

My first shoot in 6 months is Jen Cloher at Lansdowne Hotel. Just thought I'd get out there again and see if I could remember how to take photos as well as I did before. It was a fun night, fun shoot. Keen to get out there again.

So would you guys like me to take photos of Jen Cloher on Saturday? Possibly tonight, but I don't know if I can get prepared in time.
