I'm freeeeeee! After Melbourne's strict lockdown we're finally free to travel again. For someone who loves landscape photography and adventures, it's been hard to have spent so much time indoors this year. But of course, it's been necessary and I'm thrilled that the borders have opened again.

So first stop interstate had to be visiting my folks in Penrith, but I took some time out to catch up with one of my oldest friends and do the Great River Walk around the Nepean River, early in the morning to avoid the 42C heat 🥵.

Penrith has changed so much since I grew up here, but I'm glad to see the council investing in local activities and really improving the facilities around the river. I'll never forget the blue green algae attacks on this river - now it's so different, clean and peaceful.

While I've been limited in my travel plans this year, I've really been enjoying exploring the Maribyrnong and Melbourne's west. This morning was a glorious day for a cycle - puddles of water from last night's rain, reflecting a perfectly blue sky. All the kayakers and rowers were out on the river. A great day for a quick ride up and down the bike trail. 🚴‍♀️

I think it's worthwhile posting photos that give people hope during this dark time. Self-isolation is hard, especially for those of us who like getting into the great outdoors. This is taken on the Charlotte Pass loop to the Mount Kosciuszko Summit, two summers ago. A lot has happened since then, including the bushfires and the coronavirus pandemic. ⠀

I've had to cancel a photography trip to Tasmania, and likely a trip to regional NSW and New Zealand. I can't imagine what it's like for all the people who rely on tourism to make a living. I'm hoping once this is all over I can make some trips out to remote Australia again. Take care everyone.⠀

I love how Salzburg is a town surrounded by these incredible mountains, yet it still manages to keep a small town feeling. This composition caught my eye - the small house at the centre of the crossroads, as seen from the grand fortress.

You know those moments when all the elements align for a beautiful photo? Even the magical ones you can't control, like the weather? That's what happened when I got this beautiful sunset in Budapest over the famous chain bridge. It was absolutely freezing - minus 20C! Not sure what that is in farenheit for my northern hemisphere friends, but it was a perfectly crisp day for shooting.

The early bird gets the landscape photo... I was up before dawn to capture the sunrise just as it hit the mountain ranges in Kamikochi National Park. The Japan Alps provide some pretty spectacular photography locations. I hope to come back again to do some extended hiking. ⠀

Ahh, Kamikochi. There is nothing like a nice clear day and a circular polarising filter to bring out a beautiful blue sky. In case you don't have a CPL filter, I highly recommend them for landscape photography. It's like sunglasses for your camera. The filter cuts down the glare significantly on bright sunny days, making skies pop and rivers clear. ⠀
