But why is the moon not blue…
This is the Blue Micro full moon thanks to the rare combination of a ‘micro’ moon - the smallest full moon of the year and the fact that this is the second full moon in May - a ‘once in a blue moon’ event. So no it won’t appear blue but it’s certainly a rare combo of events and a beautiful sight!
I woke at 4:30am this morning to head to Camp Cove to align the setting moon with the Sydney Tower Eye and thanks to the trusty app, I was able to get the alignment perfect! A few meters to the left or to the right, and the alignment would have been off, shifting the moon too high and too low to completely cover the tower.
