First morning light on the first day walking the Great Ocean walk. The walk starts at Apollo Bay and continues along the coastline for 100km to the 12 Apostles. It’s definitely one of the more spectacular walks to do.

I’ve been looking through very old photos... and I found something I have no recollection of ever seeing. But, as I captured it on film, I must have been there, right?
1994 in Zimbabwe, and a group of us hiked up and camped on Tchetchenini, the highest mountain (maybe just a big hill) near Mhangura, in Mashonaland West.
Apparently we saw rock art, and it just blows me away that a) I saw it, and b) I have no memory of it. It would be wonderful to see it again, but it was local knowledge that got us there, and searching on Encyclopedia Google hasn’t given me any useful information as to its existence. But wow! I saw this!

Some concerts are just more special than others. It’s when something extra connects with your being, your soul, and you just don’t want it to end. “Night of the Soul” was one of those concerts for me. Somehow healing in this hurt world we are living in. Some magic in the time of a plague. Some hope.
This is Samuel Barber’s “Agnus Dei”, recorded by a friend (thank you Eric LG) at last night’s final performance. It is the centrepiece of “Night of the Soul”, and the pinnacle of the story woven through the show. It is my favourite piece from the show where I loved every single number. The music is still streaming through my mind like a miniature built in choir and orchestra. I hope it continues for a while longer.

The stage is set, the yoga mats are out. The audience for “The Night of the Soul” will be listening while sitting or lying down on the yoga mats. Unheard of for a classical music concert, right? But absolutely the perfect way to immerse yourself in the surround sound that the venue, the Cutaway, creates. Reverb like you’re in a cavern. Shut your eyes and you are transported to another realm.
Unfortunately I’m not allowed to take photos while performing… can’t understand why 😜… so final rehearsal is as good as it gets. Anyway, concert no. 1 is done. Two to go.

Two days out and it’s a miracle that we’re still on track to step on the stage. Covid-safe practices and possibly some good fortune have kept us going, and we’re all looking to performing in front of real live audiences from Thursday to Saturday!
