Are you afraid?

Seriously, I recommend getting wet to so many people for their couples session, and I get so many excuses why they can't do it. And that's fine, but, I do want to tell you about a couple I photographed in Newy earlier this year.

Sam & Kolby, 2 opf the funnest legends I have had the pleasure of working with. I suggested jumping in the water, and they barely bat an eyelid, quickly saying they'd love too. They were up for whatever seemed fun, and believe me, they had fun!

We got to the pools and they were so low, like knee height (normally they're nice and deep). Did this deter them? No!

I even suggested "maybe we won't do it guys, it's pretty low" and they just laughed at me, and jumped in.

Honestly, how good! The shots I think tell that story, what do you think? Would you do this?

But you can control how you respond to it.

On this epic day out in the Blue Mountains, we certainly copped some intense rain and wind, which completely changed our plans on the day.

Thankfully C & J rolled with it, in great spirits and just had a great time together. Ultimately, it turned out incredble, because their connection couldn't be faked.

"You can just photoshop it after right?"

And while that might be true of a stain on the dress, fly away hairs or an annoying uncle in the back of your photos who just won't get the hint, it is not true of your emotions.

If you are unhappy on your day, you will look unhappy, and no amount of expertise on photoshop will allow a photographer to change how you look.

So no matter what way you go on your wedding, be it a huge 500+ person vogue style wedding, a 40 person intimate airbnb wedding, or just the 2 of you eloping on a cliff, you need to make sure you make the choice that will make you truly happy on the day, not the choice you think you need to make.

No polished, professional headshot, just a photo that shows who I really am.

I'm a photographer, but more importantly, I'm a dad—a fun, slightly weird dad who loves nothing more than having a great time with my couples and capturing their story. I channel my own family when I capture yours. My biggest challenge, and biggest reward on the day is working out how to uniquely tell your story!

If you’re wondering about my little friends on my shoulders, they're a gift from my daughter, Mia. Every time I travel for a wedding, she gives me a toy, blesses it, and asks it to keep me safe. So, they come with me everywhere I go. They've become such a part of my journey that my couples even ask to get photos with them!

The more moving parts you have, the more likely she is to figure it out. Honestly, I had quite the complicated proposal, and my now wife did in fact find so many things that should have told her about my plans...thankfully she disregarded them haha!

Due to the way they had their day planned, these two decided to do their portraits the evening before their wedding. Solid idea, even if the wind was so intense the brides veil blew off to NZ mid session!

Watching couples spend all day together, which makes sense right? I mean, the day is all about you and your partner, right?

I completely believe that everyone should at the very least consider eloping. It's not for everyone, in fact, it's not for most, but, it will help to put into perspective what is important to you, whoever way you go with your wedding :)

Tell me I'm wrong?

When I used to shoot traditional weddings, it was one of the things I noticed the most.

From separating the night before, through prep, a huge ceremony, family portraits and a reception that's full to the brim...

The only time together, alone, were the portraits.

Remember this day is about you, not your guests, not your followers. It's your day, together, you should make sure you get to spend time with one another.
