I love moments…the in-between moments…the ordinary moments…the moments when you pause and want to keep that moment forever…I love details…I love light…I love motherhood..I love connections…and emotions….I love real and authentic and I can never squeeze all of this into "3 words to describe your style"

I believe, as photographers, we have women who want to be seen but don’t like what they see.

And it is our job to document them in a way that feels right for them, not us.

You can capture their hands holding, their arms and legs tangled, a tight crop, or even from behind.

Look for the love without the face.

It's always there.

It is our job to amplify it.

Of course, include the beautiful smiles and laughing portraits.

But if you feel her freeze, then remember the details.

She deserves to be seen. Be gentle with her.

My daughter took this as we walked around Yanaka, Tokyo. I had the camera in my hands, and she said, "Let me take a photo of you.”

I handed over the camera willingly.

I love what see saw. She amplified my love.

Oh, wow!

We did this model call session back in August.

It was an absolute triumph to be out in the Blue Mountains with

Her goal was to use the mountains as a backdrop and to incorporate natural textures such as leaves, bark, and rocks.

She wanted it to feel organic and to capture this season of their life.

A lot of thought went into the location and styling. She absolutely nailed it.

These model call sessions are for the photographer and made by the photographer. They are the culmination of 1:1 work, and these behind-the-scenes show just how much it is the art of Alexia.

Working with Alexia as part of Thrive was pure joy. She shared many thoughts via voice messages, and together we unravelled them.

Her natural style celebrates organic moments, and her strength lies in seeing contrasts in story, light, and emotion.

She draws from her Greek heritage and knows the importance of family. She sees the joy, but also the quiet, and she uses both in all her sessions.

Like most photographers, Alexia was/is on the right path. She just needed a little guidance to stop the noise and listen to her voice.

I will be releasing a newly packaged Thrive that allows for both in-person and online sessions. It will continue to be slow and soulful guidance.

This is where my strengths are, but more on that later.

Please pop over to Alexia's profile and enjoy her art. Share some love and follow her journey.

She is a bright light in our industry.

It's been 4 months in Brissy!

That hasn't felt fast or slow; it just happened.

I have been unrushed and allowed things to happen slowly.

I have been relearning my ways because I want this new season to look and feel different.

And being in a new place has allowed me the space I have needed to make changes.

I will be making big changes in my coaching and photography as well, but more on that later.

Mostly, I've enjoyed seeing the beauty in this city and photographing the beauty of this new life.

"Wow! You look beautiful!"

Those words came towards me from a complete stranger.

She didn't know if I was having a good or bad day, yet those words wrapped their arms around me.

I felt seen by one middle-aged woman to another, and I took those words, packed them in my memory keeper for another day.

It's amazing how 4 simple words can change how you feel, and lift you.

So, please, remember to tell that person who catches your eye and compliment them.

She will relish it.

Feeling very chuffed to have this image selected as a Finalist in the Voice 2025 by for the Black and White category.

I took this at a garden nursery where the blushing brides were plentiful.

I took the camera with me for a little creative play date at the beginning of Spring.

I wandered and shot the flowers, mostly native Australian wildflowers.

In processing, the black-and-white captured the details, added texture, and removed some distractions.

I actually printed this image last week, as I am testing prints to add to my print store.

It's delicious. It's so striking.

So this recognition, which is always an honour, helped with some of the final decisions.

It's always nice to know youre on the right path.

Sakura (桜/さくら) refers to Japanese cherry blossom trees, symbolising the fleeting beauty of life, renewal, and spring.

And we were so lucky to see the very first flowers bloom.

There were only a few trees with flowers, and I can only imagine what it is like when all the trees are blossoming.

There were lots of women in kimonos or dresses, having their photos taken under the flowers, and my creative heart wanted to play.

Maybe next time!

We also got to see snow. It snowed heavily the few days before we arrived in Tokyo, and while most of it had melted, we found big patches in Shinjuku Gyoen National Park.

Swipe to see the snow!

Gorgeous light (part 2)

These are the landscape shots.

I used the 28mm on this trip, and I love the sense of space it creates.

I am a nifty 50 girl, and I love detail shots.

So, this was a creative stretch for me.

Yet the sights of Japan made it so me.

From the street scenes to the light bouncing on and through buildings, it was so delicious.

Can I go back? I miss it!

There's a younger version of me jumping up and down with excitement over these images.

If you don't know, I found photography while we lived in Brazil.

I was shooting with a point-and-shoot camera, and felt completely frustrated that I couldnt capture what I was seeing.

I got a fancy DSLR, and I have been practising ever since.

So, travel photography and shooting on the fly feels very natural to me because it's how I learnt.

And while we travelled around Japan, not only could I see the light, I could also create with it.

That younger version of me is proud that I kept on going and kept learning.

I also learnt a new word, Komorebi (木漏れ日).

It is a Japanese term for the dappled, shifting light that filters through tree leaves.

It highlights the appreciation of fleeting, ephemeral beauty in daily life.

Isn't it beautiful?

Where do I start with our trip to Japan?

It has to be Mt Fuji.

We went on a cloudy day and honestly didn't think we would get to see her.

She was shrouded in clouds, and apparently, you only get to see her 80 days out of 365.

Our hopes were dashed.

We tramped around the little villages and their trinket stores, wishing the clouds away.

And finally, the tip peaked out of the clouds.

By the time we got to Arakurayama Sengen Park, we had walked up the 400 steps, and we had the best view.

I was mesmerised.

We got to see her one last time on the fast train back to Tokyo.

Make sure you slide to see our view out the window.

One of the first places I went to visit after lockdown ended back in 2020 was the city. (I will see if I can find it to post in my stories?

I felt drawn to it...like a calling. It was an idea that kept running through my mind.

It was a bit out of character because I am mostly inspired by softness and blur, and the city isn't always soft.

But I remember feeling like I need that sense of wonder and awe that you can only find in the city.

Since then, I reguarly go into the city just to explore and create.

I love how the light falls and how you have to wait for the shot.

There are people, buses, cars and trains that you have to wait to either leave the frame or walk into it.

It reminds me to slowdown and not only see the moment but feel it too.

Feeling the moment is an important part of creating emotive images, and it' s the hardest to learn.

Now that my access to the city is a short bus ride, I feel that calling again.

And there are two simple lessons here:

1) listen to what pulls at your creative heart
2) it's ok to colour outside your box.

The beauty of being creative and feeling inspired is that you are in the driver's seat ( and it's also the hardest part)

It doesn't mean you need to create a new portfolio and start a side business.

It just means you are multi-dimensional, inspired by many things, and care enough to nurture your ideas.
