I got the chance to head out during the early part of sunset and ended up catching something I wasn’t really expecting, and I’m extremely proud of.

The clouds were starting to break apart, letting these soft beams of light come through in between them, and while I was framing the photo, a bird happened to pass straight through the middle of one of those beams. It wasn’t something I planned at all, but it made the photo feel so much more alive. It was very much one of those moments where everything lined up perfectly.

I took this photo a while back while I was out on a walk, and I can’t remember where I was when I took it.

I just saw this bird poking out from the tree, almost like it was looking straight at me. It stayed there long enough for me to grab a few shots, half hidden in the leaves with a bit of a quirky angle. I love this photo so much, and it brings me a smile every time I look at it. It’s one of those photos you can’t really set up or fake, even if you tried. It just happens in the moment.

This is the last post of the photos that I took while at Jingga Pool in Dharawal National Park; these were taken at the exact same spot, just from different perspectives.

I ended up spending more time than I’d like to admit around these pools, making small adjustments and watching how the water moved through the rock and how best to take the photos as the framing was quite compact.

Adding to my previous post, this is another photo that I took while at Jingga Pool in Dharawal National Park, and I spent some time just watching the water move.

I was originally trying to take something a bit different from what I’d usually go for, but nothing was really clicking at first. After sitting around for a bit, I chose to take a photo of the movement of the water.

Because I loved how it was constantly changing, with small sections folding over each other and then disappearing again almost straight away. It made it a bit of a waiting game, trying to catch a moment where it held together just enough.

I quite like how the end result turned out, as I managed to freeze the movement in a way that still keeps that sense of flow without it feeling too smoothed out.

This photo was taken at Jingga Pool in Dharawal National Park. I took this while standing up on the rock overlooking the pools. I spent quite a while looking at how to photograph this area. I thought about trying a long exposure, but the water wasn’t really moving enough to justify it, and honestly, it’d cause the picture to become overexposed, keeping the texture and those subtle ripples felt truer to how it looked in person. There was a light breeze coming through every now and then, just enough to break up the reflections of the trees without completely losing them.

I remember standing here for quite a while trying to decide whether to shoot lower and emphasise the rock in the foreground, or step back and simplify it a bit. I ended up sticking with this angle because it felt balanced.

It’s been a little while since I’ve gone back through some of my older garden shots, and this one from last spring caught my attention again. What caught my eye was how many buds were sprouting within the flower, which really made it stand out among everything else.

Sometimes it’s the small details like that which make something simple feel a bit more interesting when you stop and look a little closer.

As we head into Mid-Autumn and the trees are just beginning to change, I thought I’d dip into some of my archives that I’ve yet to post. I took this photo last winter, right as the sun was dropping below the horizon and the sky started shifting into those softer, muted tones that only really show up at that time of year.

What drew me into taking this photo wasn’t just the colours or the completely bare tree, but the combination. I then noticed the birds in the tree, which I felt just added a nice touch, making the photo feel a bit more alive.

I took this while I went out for a walk to clear my thoughts after a long day. I wasn’t planning on doing any photography. I just wanted some quiet time and fresh air. Then this sunset appeared.

I’ve learnt over the years that you’ll always stumble upon the best photography chances when you least expect them, and this just filled that belief for me yet again. Thankfully, although I didn't have my phone with me, I did what I could with what I had.

We're now getting some awesome storms, thanks to the seasonal change to Autumn. This storm occurred only an hour ago; it exploded from nothing to a beast with 5 cm-sized hail that fell in the surrounding suburbs and a rotating base that attempted to drop a weak funnel cloud, though it looked closer to a Scud cloud. licensing available via Severe Weather Australia

Taken just 40 minutes ago as a severe thunderstorm rolled directly over me. This storm was different from most as it brought hail, which is quite uncommon, as it normally misses me due to the valleys in the area. When measured, it was 1cm, with radar suggesting up to 3cm nearby (glad that missed me).

This was definitely the best storm that I've had this season so far, after what has otherwise been quite an abysmal and quiet season - I guess this is its last hurrah as the season is meant to finish in a weeks time.
